Badly scrawled half marathon plan

So I having got into a habit of doing a 10k and to 5ks a week, I was keen to aim for something new and wanted to do a half marathon before the year is out. After a bit of research, I settled on the Chichester half on Sunday 6 October. But this meant I didn’t quite have the 16 weeks for @roseabi ‘s plan!

However I had ‘accidentally’ done an 11k the week before so I figured I could start at week 4? I am one week in now and have scribbled my own version of the plan. I still have one week less than I thought so I’ve had to remove a week near the end (!) which is why it only goes up to week 15. I am planning on filling the blanks with a rest day, a swim and strength exercises (press ups). Chichester half is up a big hill too and I run along the seafront in a nice flat promenade - so some of those interval runs might turn out to be hill runs as practice. But I think this is as precise as I can be at the moment depending on work and family commitments!

What do people think? Is this okay? Not too much?

Thanks!

I love setting out my own training plan. It is exciting to see the progress you will be making. Good luck with the training, Chichester is a lovely place and it should be a good event.

That looks like real commitment right there - looks to be in pen, so no rubbing out 😀. All sounds good to me - but I'm no expert so that doesn't count for much; it definitely looks exciting though - nothing quite like starting a new plan. Enjoy 🙂

If you want to make the most of strength training I'd be inclined to swap upper body exercises for running specific and core. Calf raises, planks, squats, lunges, that sort of thing.

Looks great! I agree with Andy about the strength work, but this running plan should take you smoothly to an enjoyable first half marathon xxx

Do remember to volunteer at parkrun occasionally 😊😊😊

Have you seen the bupa 1/2 marathon plan? I’m using that for my great north run training
