Does anyone use two different running apps? Do they favour one over the other?

I used to use Runkeeper when I first started running, tried Runtastic for a while then got into Strava and recently have started using Runtastic again. I am starting to favour Runtastic even after two runs over Strava. Can't put my finger on why particularly.

Interesting. What does it have over Strava?

It locks once you start so no danger of the run accidentally stopping, it tells you when you have done a mile, 2 miles etc, duration of run, pace and calories, you can notify fb etc if you want. The reason I like it is that most people I know don't use it. I don't get requests to follow or emails clogging up my inbox giving me kudos (I like being given kudos by the way). There are plans but you need to upgrade to premium. I will stick with the free app. There is probably something I have missed so download it and have a look. If you don't like it uninstall it

I use Strava and Garmin Connect, the latter to translate stuff from my watch and monitor stats from individual runs, and the former to look at the bigger picture and keep an eye on progression. I could probably do without Strava well enough but it does sometimes guilt me into running further. I started off with Runkeeper but didn't really get on with it, I found it a bit pastel coloured and patronising—I don't respond well to that whole 'yay! You're amazing! Let's go running! You can do it!' approach, whereas Strava and Garmin are just tools that I feed numbers into, which suits me better.

The watch (Garmim) records the run and auto uploads to Garmin connect. This then syncs (using tapiriik) with Endomondo, Strava, Training Peaks, Google Fit, Relive and My Fitness Pal. As well as saving a GPS file to Dropbox. The two I use the most are TP and MFP.

I use my fitbit and samsung health. I use Fitbit to record my run and it gives me all the stats as garmin would and samsung health i have on to set my distance (in km) and it gives me updates at each km of pace, remaining distance, time, etc.

Very simple - just how i like it :-)

I think Strava is OK but there are other options as yourself and others have replied to my question. Samsung Health is that an app if so is it free? Do you have to have a Samsung phone?

Just use what you are most comfortable with. I use strava mostly as that's what all my friends use so has a good social element.

I also use Garmin watch/Connect which auto pushes to Strava. Very simple. I stayed off Strava at first but now my running friends are all on it whether they use garmins or not, so i jumped on the bandwagon too :) Whatever makes your life easier is your best bet.

Sorry to jump in on this with a question but has anyone found that Garmin and Strava record different distances? I did a run yesterday and Strava recorded 4.1k but my Garmin imported run re order 5.1k....I made sure to start/ stop recording at same time. I did a manual calculation on google maps and I’m pretty sure I did over 5k (and I felt like I did!). Any ideas?
