Half marathon trail

Did the No Ego Challenge: Conquer the Forest half marathon on Sunday at Dalby Forest with a few from my club. I’m 1162 in the photo. It was great fun but I had problems with my left knee. I’m pretty sure it’s my IT band as it happens on steep trail downhills. I’ve booked in with a physio. Annoying as I had a strap on my right leg as that usually hurts but the other one went 🤣 Really loved running through the trees and in and out of branches and through bogs. Trail is so much more interesting than road running. Think I need my trail shoes to be fit properly though as it could be part of the issue. I have support road shoes. New shoes 😍

Sounds like a really great run that and you look to be enjoying it despite your knee 😀 Hope you get to the bottom of the problem and get it sorted quickly. Good luck

Well done!! Trails are the best! Downhill is so much harder on your legs, takes some getting used to. Fingers crossed you get it sorted 🤞🏻

I need to let go and free fall as I jar my knee braking but I’m too scared!

That's just one option, and I use it on known terrain but if you're wary take much faster, smaller steps, just like you might on a steep uphill, it helps to soften that jarring and pressure around the knees. Also use the whole path, zig zag from side to side to reduce the steepness 👍🏻

I’ll try smaller steps! Thanks 👍🏽

Oh that looks like a lovely half marathon! Well done, Tasha! And you look so relaxed and happy in the photo. :-)

I hope that the physio can sort your knee out quickly – but yes, new shoes!
