Completed my first marathon at age 72 on Sunday - my training and goal was to finish in 6 hours 20 minutes - I failed by one minute (did it in 6:19 
) - but that was because my Garmin battery died!! . I got a major calf cramp at around 30K ( never got anything like that before during training) - I bent down to eliminate a pebble in my shoe and while balancing on one leg, it seized up. At the time I was heading for sub 6 hour finish 
- but I still managed to recalibrate on the go (less running more walking) and by slowing down 1 minute per K , managed to achieve the goal I am thinking that this will be the only one - the problem for non-gifted runners like me , is that 6+ hours - too long !!!!! The 3- hours for a HM is more manageable - but at least I now have the coveted black Gold Coast Marathon t-shirt!!!
