Hi. So ive decided to enter myself into a 20 mile fell run in 12 weeks time! Could anyone possibly point me in the direction of a suitable training plan or give me some ideas how to write my own. I can do 3 runs per week but I work shifts, so have to be flexible. Help would be appreciated. Thankyou x

What's your current run distances look like? Are you currently doing trail/hills?

I do a long trail run weekly currently at 18 miles with good elevation. Ideally it would be good to get up to 15/16 milers off road and with hills.

Have you looked at the elevation plan for the one you've signed up for?

Hi. Its got 5000ft of elevation over 4 passes. Currently my weekly long run is 10-11 miles which i try to do on trails, time permitting. I have done a trail half 3 weeks ago and i am doing another trail half in 3 weeks. I have places i can go to get good trail climbs but dont know whether to do these as my regular long runs straight away or build them up. My race is 12 weeks from today x

Gosh that's a lot of climbing. If it were me I'd want to start increasing elevation now. Work out over the weeks you have to train how much you need to add in building weekly to get up to nearly that level.

Which worries you more, the distance or the climbs?

Probably the climbing. I can increase distance with no problem (i think). Its increasing the elevation each week thats going to be difficult. I have hills nearby but to get that elevation will require doing laps of the same hills which i suppose is ok once a week 🤔🤔

Yes. I often go up to come back down and then back up the next path. It's good practice.

I would def try to get that in once and week and keep increasing. See how it feels. If it's gradual elevation it won't be too bad but steep climbs do take it out of you!

Thanx. I'll just have to persevere with hill repeats xx

Don't forget, it's endurance you need, not top speed. Pace yourself to last 👍🏻😉
