Hi all!

Welcome to a brand new week - how's it going?

Scrolling through the posts of the past seven days I've seen racing personal bests, people beating the weather either by brute force or more devious means, huge distances run on the treadmill in one go, brave new running goals set, training milestones reached. I have come to one conclusion.

YOU'RE ALL AMAZING!!!!!!

So, tell me more πŸ˜„

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion 😊

If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Happy running, amazing people!

Got my longest run before the HM done last week - my old friend the 24k to Rottingdean and back via the racecourse. Other than that not much else - 13k pacey run, and a swim. Since then I've been on the sofa with a yucky cold πŸ˜„

Looking forward to better things this week. Bit windy innit!?

Happy running, all 😊😊😊

It’s run day though so gotta head out. I’m just doing the two final runs of my current plan before downloading the next one I noticed I missed two runs of my current plan and they’re marked with a big Red ❌ on the app on my phone. I might runs those too as I don’t like having an untidy plan on my mind. Or should I just let it go πŸ€” πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ˜ƒ

Guess what? I changed my mind. There's another run left on the plan and I can't get signed off til it's done It's only a five km. I did the penultimate 10k today, slowly and leisurely, finishing up in Lidl in searching of running shoes. Not a trace. Too late, the sale was on the 7th. Doh!

Doh! 😊

I was thinking about going looking for those, but I didn't get around to it. Next time!

Thought I’d try a completely new route. I mapped it out last night. I headed out full of the joys of the chilly but beautiful morning overlooking the South Downs National Park. I came a bit unstuck because what looks like a footpath on the map doesn’t mean the footpath actually exists. Still, all’s well that ends well. I managed to chalk up 17k. My longest run(jog) yet.

Have a great week and happy running everyone.

After my second last long run on Sat (just over 27) I am hoping to hit 28 this week. Then its 2 week taper for the 30k on the 31st. The temps are finally in the plusses!! Also signed up for the Chili Half next year but I may have mentioned that somewhere here already 😊.

Just back from my last long run before Hastings HM. Very very windy but a beautiful day 🌞 Actually ran much faster than I intended but it felt good and I felt strong. It is very likely to be windy come the day and after today and Saturday's parkrun I'm feeling much more confident that I can cope with it.

Passed some builders on the way out and when I came back one of them said "blimey you're going a long way". I shouted back "10 miles" - he looked suitably impressed πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathonβ€’ in reply topianoteacher

Thanks Roseabi! I had legs of lead on Saturday and about 11km of easy running including a parkrun/walk with a newbie was about all I could manage. I am just back from my first 'go' at running to the leisure centre, swimming a mile, then running home again :) 5km run in total. I have a ridiculously long day tomorrow, so I'll miss Good Gym, hence today's effort! I hope for a social run on Thursday evening and then there is no local parkrun on Saturday so I can't make up my mind whether to put in a long run somewhere else for a change. I am seeing the chiropractic on Wednesday and I'll get his opinion on why my calf muscles are feeling so fatigued lately. There isn't any pain, they're just tired.

misswobble profile image
misswobbleMarathonβ€’ in reply toEqui-geek

Try calf strengthening exercises πŸ™‚πŸ‘

My running has been a bit hard going last week. I was on leave from work but have builders in so my running wasnt on the normal scheduled days. My 5-10k group did their finale 10k run on Monday which was awesome to see them achieve what they thought was unachievable. I gave them all 10k medals for their efforts over the last 8 weeks. My next run should have been Wednesday but kids and builders got in the way so it landed on Thursday with a 7.5 mile quicker paced run with a friend. Sadly I have no bathroom for a lovely soak so stretches and rollering would have to do. On Friday was my longer run, 6 miles to meet a run leader in the next town and 10 miles with them. I was too fast for my 6 miles and they were not pacing me slow enough for my long run pace either. So 16 miles of leg fatigue and a new hm PB. I guess I may know how I will feel at the end of the marathon but it has knocked my confidence a bit. So i will pick myself up and do 6-7 miles tonight, weather is awful today!

Oh and I completed my run leader course on Sunday, woohoo!

10k the day after a 10k PB, the day after Parkrun. Needed my first loomergency stop for months (thank heavens for Tesco), damn, thought I'd got that under control. Hope the Crohns isn't about to flare.

My 3 day run streak is over, your crown is safe ju-ju- .

You have Crohn's? πŸ˜” Good old Tesco, every little helps 😊

Langley-Loper profile image
Langley-LoperHalf Marathonβ€’ in reply toroseabi

Sadly, yes, but fairly mild. It was either Tesco or a pub that I've never been in before so I didn't have the nerve. My guts have been fairly well behaved after a course of steroids a couple of years ago. Let's hope this was a one off as there are very few toilet opportunities on the club route!

Ran a HM outside today instead of in the Espoo indoor arena (sunny and only minus 8 windchill, so spring is defo coming to Helsinki!). 10k and 5k runs planned later in the week. I've been nursing a verly slight deep bruising sensation in my calf for a couple of weeks hoping it was not going to develop more and thankfully it seems to have gone away. Touch wood. I seem to have got away with avoiding injury since the sofa c25k b210k HM and marathon journey started, so I've been expecting something to give at some point. Hopefully just a timely warning to listen to my body at all times and to ease-off straight away at the first sign of any twinge. Lesson learned.

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathonβ€’ in reply toLordi

I saw that on Strava and was confused for a second 😊

Hope the calf gets better asap! Sounds like it could be a bit of soleus trouble, in which case do your calf stretches/raises/heel-dips with a bent knee.

Got outside after work for a lovely daylight 7k run through slushy puddles of melting snow and a few really icy patches. It looks like Spring is finally arriving and the snow is melting quickly. Did a cross training workout yesterday using the elliptical then some lunges and squats and piriformis stretches/strengthening exercises since my right bum and hamstring are still tight and bothering me and my knees have been niggly of late. I have a planned 7k and 14k run this week plus hoping to get out to the lake for a muddy hike through the hills with my trail running partner, just have to figure out which days will work best. Excited to think I might get on my trails soon!

roseabi profile image

Woohoo! Take care xx

MutleyShuffle profile image

I have been taking it a bit easier since I got the butt niggle, I have done a couple of ten milers as my last two long runs but nothing longer, so hope I can manage the distance on HM day. I think I went off the boil a bit too, getting a bit tired of following my plan. I was quite good doing strength and stretching for a bit but now the niggle has abated somewhat I seem to have got lazy again. Naughty me. Anyway looking forward to some nice short runs this week and next and then it's the Big Day! Yay! Helped hand out leaflets the other day on one of the roads that is going to be closed for the event - it's getting very real! πŸ€—

Happy running everyone πŸƒπŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

I am down south and trying to cajole my Dad into taking part in the Pegwell Bay parkrun with me tomorrow...though looking out the window it's a wee bit horrid and rainy, and also I think I'll drink some wine tonight, so I may well bail out when the alarm goes off tomorrow morning..!

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathonβ€’ in reply toSqkr

Aw 😊

Actually, from what I've seen of tomorrow's forecast I wouldn't be surprised if the parkrun was called off anyway!

Sqkr profile image
SqkrHalf Marathonβ€’ in reply toroseabi

Aw, then my running stuff will have travelled 1000 miles for nothing ☹️ I initially thought about going out today and had a nice 16k route planned on strava, but then dad mentioned parkrunβ€”in jest I thinkβ€”and I was all YES LET'S DO THIS. πŸ€” I'll keep an eye on Facebook, I guess they'll post there if it's not happening.

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathonβ€’ in reply toSqkr

My local one's FB page says they are "monitoring the situation" - they're pretty diehard as a rule, and I expect a lot of the coastal parkruns are 😊

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathonβ€’ in reply toSqkr

Did you go?

Sqkr profile image
SqkrHalf Marathonβ€’ in reply toroseabi

I did πŸ˜„ It was very blustery, and also very puddly and muddy! I ran halfway with dad, but then he stopped 'to take off a layer' (πŸ€” or couldn't keep up with his special pacer visiting from up north) so I carried on solo. Beat him by a minute 😁 It was a parkrun PB for me at 25.15, but not a 5K PB. Which just goes to show I need to go to parkrun more often!
