I ordered a box of Tailwind sachets yesterday afternoon and they dropped onto the mat this morning, straight into the jaws of the waiting dog 🙄 Gerrofffff!
Preparations have begun. Checklist started (in my head that is) Need to make flapjacks 👩🍳
Planning is half the fun 😃. She said confidently 😎
I got a lovely postcard with the Tailwind, with a personal message from them wishing me all the best Nice touch 🙂

Tailwind marketing is really good, as is the product. Your dog obvs knows how good they are!
In my foray into marathon running the only thing I took with me above the TW was dried apricots. I only had 1 and ditched the rest as I didn’t want/need anything else and decided they were too hard to eat. Mind you I find jelly babies hard to get down too. In my back pocket I had a recovery drink sachet emptied into a soft 500ml bottle just waiting to have water tipped into - shame I never got to take it as I quite liked the vanilla flavour
I mixed one up ready and took two sachets. the marathon organiser mixed them for me I needed a third but had to make do with a gel which he gave me. I choked on it for several minutes 😖. So I shall be sure to take enough with me this time
I used my running belt which has 2x175ml bottles. On race day I put a bit of water in them and managed just over 5 scoops in each one and a bit more water. They mixed well - didn’t look like it would at first. You see I was aimimg for a 5-6hr time. A slurp every 5k with a bit of fresh water from a 250ml bottle tucked into my waist belt. I used almost 2 of those bottles for the 39.66k I covered. Worked a treat for me energy wise as no slumping, tiring, hunger, or sign of the wall - just an unexpected long break near the end ooops😃.
I mixed one in 600ml of water then decanted into my 500 ml bottle I drank the rest After that it was 500 ml of water. It says on the blurb between 500 and 700 ml It’s pleasant to drink. I didn’t use the caffeine ones. Might this time though, for the mid to end of the race when I might need a boost 😤
I’ve still not decided on my run walk timings yet 🙈
Still umming and aaghing about tomorrow’s outfit. Big pocket capris I think as i’m Packing hula hoops 🙂
It’s only down the road so a saunter down there is just lovely Nip to the loo in Fredrick’s I’m taking the voluminous tee with me to see if I can swap it for one that doesn’t wrap round me three times 🙂. My son is working so can’t come. So that means no little film clip at the end 🙁.
If I could I’d come and watch but at the moment “It’s One Step Beyond” 😀. My husband would have kittens! Seems to think I’m now made of glass. Bless him though.
I love those Tailwind guys. The personal touch makes such a difference. I'm sure they're a massive operation like SIS or High5 or any other, but in my head they're just a couple of people in a shed and I love that 😄 It feels like they care!
I got a goodie box from them last week too. They sent me an email wishing me luck yesterday - very nice 😀
Question for you or anyone who may know ... with the recovery sachet, can you make it up first thing and drink it several hours later or should you make it up just as you're going to drink it? Not sure I'll have the energy for a proper shake at that point 😃
I make it up in advance, I've tried making it on the run itself but it just ended up a big powdery mess for me, and I don't like having stuff in pockets anyway. I made it strong for Glasgow and then drank a bit of extra water on the way round with it, to save lugging round a big bottle.
7 sachets for £11.95 plus £2.95 first class post Each sachets makes between 500 - 700 ml. 200 calories per sachets. They are gentle on the stomach and are mild flavoured You are only drinking these on very long runs. This is only my second box I bought the last one for my marathon last November
They are great. I only use(d) them for the long runs. They work well in a Camelback and don’t leave any residue, they just flush through - excellent. I was using the stick packs but for the York marathon I bought a single flavour pack at £30ish but would last quite a while. The best before dates are quite a long way ahead and there is a shelf life on the website of 2yrs.
The recovery drink is good too and works. When I had them after my longer distances, 18 and 20 miles I had no problems and was at work the next day. I do only use them for long distance work though.
Having used gels in the past, I wouldn’t give them the time of day any more now that I have found this product. Haven’t found a downside to them. I do not have any vested interest in the company, just a very happy customer.
