Dreamed a dream by the old canal (Pogues) ... and landed on my b*m :D

I picked the wettest couple of hours of the day! Driving home blue sky began to appear and the sun is beaming still - yet the forecast was heavy rain all day. pah!

After the interesting runs in Canada I promised myself to try new stuff at home. Planned a route last night and put in a lovely (soggy) 15k alongside the Grand Union Canal this morning. So pretty, and a surprising number of people to say good morning too - boats on the move, lock keepers, houseboaters making breakfast, fishermen, a group of waterproofed DofE expeditionists and just one other runner. The ducks, swans and moorhens happily paddling about unphased by the weather while I skipped between the puddles I could actually avoid.

I managed the first fall of my running career! Nothing on the scale of misswobble , but I was heading down the steep side of a bridge over the canal when my trainer just slipped away from me in the wet - down I went, hands and b*m hitting the deck, nothing but my pride significantly hurt thankfully. I wouldn't mind, but I shouldn't even have been on the bridge - the towpath went right underneath it! The Pogues track came up shortly after my tumble :D

On Friday a huge tree came down just 10 metres in front of me as I was driving towards it. I was incredibly lucky - if I had been a few seconds earlier the car would have been flattened. I did look at a few trees today with suspicion - several were leaning over the towpath and at one point I had to positively limbo underneath a hanging willow!

I'm still troubled by blisters, but maybe not quite so bad today. The jelly babies and electrolyte tabs worked their magic again and another 15k is in the bag. Treated myself to a very welcome hot cup of tea in the cafe before driving home! Hopefully the next run will be a bit drier :D

Well done ! Sounds good apart from falling on your ass 🐴 The near miss with the tree sounds very frightening. Doesn’t bear thinking about does it 🤨

I forgot my drink today. Left it on the worktop 🙄. Had a lovely cuppa tea when I got back home ☕️

I got a blister too ☹️

Oh no! A blister on top of all your other injuries! Life just isn't kind sometimes :(

Good on you getting back out there. Hope everything is feeling a little less uncomfortable :)

I was just thinking what a lovely run you had when whoomp, onto your bum you go. I'm glad your ok though (other than your pride).

Whoomp! love it :)

Was just thinking of checking out my behind to make sure it hadn't got ripped when the only other runner I saw this morning overtook me - I was torn between thinking 'thank goodness I wasn't running along feeling my bum' and, 'oh my I do hope there's no holes' :D Happily though, my trousers were OK too :)

Eep the tree sounds terrifying! Glad you only had a pride bruiser of a fall after that, and were able to carry on. Canals are lovely places to run 🙂
