27 days to go to my first half marathon and I've strained my gluteus. I've not trained properly for a couple of weeks and in that time seen a chiropractor a couple of times. I ran a 5k yesterday and everything felt fine. Today I'm tight and uncomfortable again. Due to see the chiropractor again tomorrow but any extra advice gratefully received.

What's your longest run so far and how many weekly runs do you do?
Follow your instincts based on how you feel and ask your chiropractor for a more detailed opinion. They will advise you of the best strengthening exercises. You’ve still got time to build it up but take it slow and easy with walking breaks on the day. HM is not hugely demanding even if you run non stop but why risking an injury.. Don’t forget to hydrate well every day to minimise the risk of cramps!
Thanks very much. All good common sense advice and now I need to curtail my male macho instincts to want to do a time that's in my head. It's my very first proper run and I very much wanted to do more than I am probably going to now!!
Bah! I'll have to do another one! I guess if I do another one then I can get a PB on the second one! Silver lining! 🏃🏻♂️
All the best laid plans...
I had an ankle injury leading up to my first HM, which really ruined my training. My first HM though, and all I wanted to do was finish. There is always another run. And it gave me reason to train for another. The medal will still be shiny long after the time is forgotten.
isn't chiropracty just quack medicine? wouldn't you be better seeing a proper physio?
Oh nd I have had a chiroprator manipulate my joints in the past which was fun as who doesn't like to pop a knuckle but it did nowt for my back at the time and the physio stretches he suggested would have been more useful.
I think that's a bit harsh... It's no more quack medicine really than a sports massage, widely recommended round these parts! Some practitioners are of course better than others, but I think it's a reasonable course of action for strains that might benefit from manipulation, and much cheaper than seeing a physio. I broke my neck one time and had issues with my shoulders, went to the local chiropractor in desperation and he helped a good deal. Horses for courses.
Sorry I thought chiropracty was not medically recognised. Much like homeopathy.
Some of them are absolute loons for sure, certainly historically, but the actual manipulation can be beneficial to an extent. Of course I'm not saying to replace physio with chiropracty, it's an alternative and complementary thing, but if it gives people physical relief then why decry it? Unlike homeopathy, which has absolutely no benefits whatsoever.
Hmm. I respect everyone's choice. If you believe you can see the future in chicken gizzard then I am happy for you and hold no opinion of your personal choices 😊 if something works for you ultimately that is all that matters. If asked what is best or where a valid use of one's money is, I would never suggest something not medically recognised or grounded in believable science. But all that infers a belief system and some people have views on a complex sliding scale and ultimately we live in a free choice society to a degree so people can do what they like.
What I'm trying to say laboriously because I like and respect you is that I recognise people's choice, but I decry chiropracty because it is not medically recognised and would always suggest a physio instead because it is. My experience on cost was they were the same and my gripe is some issues can be helped by manipulation and some by physio techniques but chiropractors often take your money to manipulate your bones when the issue is muscular.
