digitalrunning.com/couch-to... I have posted this 52 weeks long "Couch to Marathon" training plan before. I discovered it a couple of months ago when I was really doing it tough - to the point where I was considering giving it all up after 4 years of running. It also happened to coincide with a time when it was exactly 52 weeks to my favorite Marathon festival on the Gold Coast of Queensland Australia - one that I have done the HM once and three times just gone down there at silly o'clock in the morning , mid-winter, pitch black, with tens of thousands of other enthusiasts to yell and scream at tens of thousands of masochistic runners . I instinctively liked the 2 steps forward , one step back approach of this plan - with total weekly distances and individual longrun distances building all the time. I also liked the idea that any particular longrun distance was done more than once - and I very much liked the idea that the first week only had me running 6 miles (10Klms) at whatever pace I wanted - something that I could easily do. BTW - I am ignoring all the annotations, stars and alphabet characters alongside the numbers and just following the numbers (using Galloway style run/walk) . I am up to week 9 so far with no problems - apart from that I have become VERY well aware that I am now 5 years older since I first started running . The longest distance I have ever covered has been a single 15 mile (24 klm) longrun during a week where I totaled 24 miles (39klm) . After week 24 , this plan has weekly totals in excess of that every single week for the next 24 weeks!!! At this time, I can't really imagine a number of things - simple things like , where the heck can I find somewhere that long to run?? I know a couple of places an hours drive away which are scenic, flat, plenty of facilities , with good running paths up to 40 klm long - but every week????
Or maybe this is just all too much and I could follow this plan until say week 24 ( HM distance) and then start up a much less demanding Galloway marathon programme??

That’s what puts me off long distances. I’m slow and finding the time for anything over 15k is difficult. Plus, as you say, where do I go for such long runs? I suppose I could work out a few long routes on my bike. But I don’t think I want to go down that path - running for me is to keep me healthy. And fun. For the moment I’ll skip the marathons!

Cant say I am mad on this. There are no reset weeks which I strongly feel the body needs every 4 weeks. There is also no strength or anything else in it either...
