I've entered my second ever race - Leeds Castle 10k on 30 September. I had better do some practice runs up grassy slopes.
Even more exciting, I get to print off a new plan and put ticks in boxes. Heaven. That is almost more fun than the running itself.
Done! I remember going to an Easter Egg hunt at Leeds Castle when I was about five, they hid all the creme eggs in the grass and a wave of small, excited children just trampled the lot 
It was such a sticky mess. I hope your run will be less so!
