Hi all, haven't posted much for a while (life eh!!), but after doing a very different event yesterday I thought it worthy of mention.
In my 3 years or so of running I have never been a fast runner, so I'm always on the look out for something different that perhaps takes the pressure off getting to the finish line ASAP.
So, what better than a 12 hour event, completing as many laps of a 6.2k loop that you can... You didn't have to run for the full 12 hours and if you wanted you could just do one loop and pick up the bling.
Sounds great eh?? Well it was HOT and it was hilly!!! In fact I don't recall any flat ground, just ups and downs around mainly fields which were very rough under foot.
Due to the time available to run, the terrain and the temperature meant going off nice and slow and walking quiet a bit, especially up the hills.... this suited me just fine.
Very pleased to say that I completed my first Marathon AND my first Ultra Marathon as I completed 8 laps which was just under 51k... YES 30 miles.
Must admit that my running legs stopped working after the marathon but my walking / shuffle legs kept going until I'd been out for 10 hours at which time I was pretty tired. It was good to enter an event where time was not important, but distance was. In the past I come close to last in a number of races, I was please to come 37th out on 175 starters in the this event.
The various humerus signs around the course were great as was the refreshment station (the love station) which had a great supply of snacks and drinks, you could also get a hug form a girl with cold sponges which was refreshing to say the least
Would I do it again.. absolutely!!! Already started looking around, but it would be good to find one that's not so hilly and hopefully a bit cooler / shaded!
Happy running folks
PS - Admin, can you change my badge to marathon please

Oh my goodness, Andy! What a fantastic achievement and in the heat!!! 😀🥇⭐️ That sounds like such a great event. You have done so much running in your three years and what an amazing way to get your marathon badge! I almost hesitate to ask -what next? 🙂 Great photo too - you don't look as though you have just run for 30miles!
**faints** 51 km? Well done you, I'm in awe. I think I'll keep chipping away at my time for a HM for the moment and let you bear te banner for longer distances until I'm ready to shine. Ahem.
That's amazing! Well done! I like the idea of taking the pressure off (although your idea of pressure and mine may differ ) and I love the signs Great idea to look for another one that is less hilly - who knows how far you'll go?
Wow! That's a loooong way, but even more impressive is that you were running for 10 hours. You must have been absolutely and completely worn out at the end. Amazing. Huge congratulations Andy!
Was that the cider frolic race andy?Sounds a lot like a white star running event! Congratulations youve come such a long way! Nice to see you here again!😊
Yes it was... my first one with them. They have another weekend of running (incl a 12 hour) in August & September all around the Dorset area. I'm tempted to enter the Bad Cow in Sept... hopefully less hilly!!
We did the Larmer tree one with them in March and my brother did the Dorchester marathon with them! Love all the mad signs and the fact its not serious! and the lovestation! I think they are renowned for their hills! The bad cow one will be good i'm sure.
