Pull up training for panthers

My baby sister is a gymnast ( she also runs). She says that she decides on a new move she wants to do, watches loads of YouTube vids and then starts practicing. I love this...

With this in mind I have spent the last 9 weeks doing daily training to do a pull up. I’ve been using coach Rig’s training plan and I’m finally seeing some changes. I haven’t got there yet but my body is changing and getting stronger.

I’ve decided once I have done it then I’ll continue to pick things off that I want to achieve.

Is anyone else working on a particular non running goal? Any words of wisdom?

Happy Panthering

Yep 👍. Working on getting stronger to run longer 🙂

Starting carefully, obvs. Well, I say “obvs” but I usually rush in like a fool, but not this time 🏋️‍♀️🧘‍♀️💪

Not doing any pull-ups yet but I would love to. My stretch area includes some pull-up bars 😎 I have visions of just hanging there 😁☺️

You should start training. Step one is just dangling from the bar to start to get used to it!!

Dangling I can do! I’ll give it a go on Tuesday before my session I’m only on week four so i’m Being a bit careful. I don’t want to overdo it and tweak something.

I think my lats are coming on 💪🏋️‍♀️😃👍

Yes that’s sensible... I’ll keep you posted on my progress!!! When I started I could barely dangle but I’m gradually building up slowly and seeing progress from small amounts of effort...

I've been doing regular strength training since November, it's a circuit training programme actually designed for windsurfers, but I thought it looked pretty good for running too. I was doing two sessions a week, but I condensed it down into one when my running training started to ramp up.

I use dumbbells at home for my circuits, and what I have noticed is that my dumbbell collection is expanding rapidly! I have increased the weights on all the upper body workouts, for example when I first started I was using just 1.5 kg dumbbells for the lateral raises, but now am using 4 kg. I use 7.5 kg dumbbells for the leg workouts, which I now need to increase, and I need heavier weights for some of the upper body moves too. I am thinking about joining the gym because I'm running out of dumbbell storage space!

I've also noticed changes in the appearance of my musculature, and my husband says I have good shoulders these days :D There's even been a couple of grainy selfies appearing on Strava and Instagram recently (I hate pictures of me!!).

Having an achievable plan and sticking to it is the thing I think :)

you can get adjustable dumbbells to save on space. I have one set that goes from about 5kg to 22.5kg then a pair of 25s and a pair of 30s.

Great stuff! You need to be very fit for triathlon. It sounds like it’s going well 💪😃👍

I have some weights at home but the sand is coming out so I get an eyeful 😁. I have got another set from out the shed but they look enormous. Probably why they were in the shed 😁🏋️‍♀️🤷‍♀️
