London Marathon 2018 Ballot Results

If you entered the ballot for the London Marathon 2018, how did it go?

Congratulations if you got in. Commiserations if you didn't.

I got the dreaded Sorry magazine and nice long-sleeved running top. The top feel a bit thinner than last year's. Although it has a few reflective details, it is black (again). Who came up with the brilliant idea of making a top for running on low-light dark, gloomy winter days or evenings black?!

  • Sorry to hear that you missed out Tomas xx

I actually got the pink bunny man magazine, London Marathon here I come!!

    I'm too excited to think...

  • Congratulations roseabi, that's wonderful news!

  • Thank you!

  • That's fantastic, roseabi! Congratulations! I hope you're doing a victory dance.

  • Thank you 3PO! I am now sitting down in a state of shock!!

  • Oh, congratulations roseabi ! That's really good news!๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€

  • Thank you Sandra!

  • Congratulations! That's so exciting!

  • Thank you, yes it is!

  • Great news... well done... let the training begin !!

I actually heard that the pink bunny man on the front cover didn't actually get a place!!! Bet he's gutted. :-)

  • Thanks Andy! Yes, I saw that, poor chap - definitely a disincentive to wearing fancy dress :)

  • Great well done

  • Thank you :)

  • Hopefully, they will let me know soon!

  • Yes indeed, fingers crossed!

  • It seems loads of people have got in via the ballot, not sure there are many places left!

  • That's brilliant roseabi ! I can remember the day I got the 'right' magazine in 2015, ready for last year. It was a combination of shock and excitement! Can't wait to hear about your training.

  • Aw thanks EatCake!

  • Oh bad luck Tomas ! ๐Ÿ™ No news here as yet, but after a summer of injury I would have a lot of work to do if I do get in...preparing myself for a Sorry magazine (although still secretly hoping for a pink bunny magazine!)๐Ÿ™‚

  • Sorry you didn't get in, Tomas. And congrats to you roseabi. What an experience! I'm not even considering the distance and think you are both incredibly tough to be running marathons - London or no London!

  • Thank you :)

  • I didn't get in either Tomas, but if I finish sub 6 hours in this Sunday's Yorkshire marathon I will get good for age entry for London 2019 and will not need to enter the bloody ballot ever again!

  • That in itself is a good reason to power through Sunday, turnturtle :)

I'll be running the 10 mile version on Sunday. A good for age entry is wildly out of reach for me.

  • Good luck TT! I will be cheering you on from London!

  • I'd need a sub 3.15 (might be a little longer now I've hit the big 50), I did a 1.30 half last year but had a foot op since so had to cancel a few marathons. Still waiting for my yay or nay.

  • Congratulations roseabi

  • Thanks Ali!

  • It won't let me edit!! Was going to say that quite a few I know have got in too,I haven't heard yet !๐Ÿ˜•

  • Sorry you didn't get in, Tomas. Yes, I agree, a black top is very odd for winter running. I suppose at least it's not pink like the Bunny Man.

  • I didnt enter but good luck to those who did!!!

  • Well done Roseabi! ๐Ÿ™‚ Commiserations Tomas โ˜น๏ธ

I couldn't hack those crowds or bother with the logistics of the planning and organisation for such an event, and take my hat off to those who can and do ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Thanks Miss W!

  • I still close my eyes and stick my fingers in my ears when anyone talks about marathons. Congratulations, roseabi, and commiserations to you, Tomas, although I'm sure you'll find another one to shine in :)

  • Thanks MFam!

  • I am still waiting, but I should imagine it be like all the other ballots I enter just waiting for Laura to drop through the letterbox.

Anyway I still have brighton marathon to do next year!

  • I've just got the, ladies 'sorry' top - I do like it, just my type of thing as a base layer for the winter..........think I'm a bit relieved actually.............secretly a tiny, tiny, tiny bit disappointed ๐Ÿ˜‰.......although OH hasn't got his response yet........and if he gets in, I just might have to go into battle for a charity place.......๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

This running lark sure is mad crazy.......๐Ÿ˜œ......what on earth has happened to me......

  • Bad luck Madge!๐Ÿ˜• Next year maybe...

  • Thanks Sandra, not sure about that........the thought of all the training really scares me.....but who knows, by the time it opens again next year.........๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Crumbs Madge, didn't realise you'd entered!!

  • Yes, that was certainly a rush of blood to the head after watching it etc., not something Iโ€™ve ever had the desire to do, not on my bucket list, but if I was going to do it, itโ€™d have to be London......just the thought of the training makes me feel ill ๐Ÿคข

    Highly unlikely to try again.......

  • Bad luck Tomas, and better luck next time. But there's plenty of other marathons out there ๐Ÿ˜‰ So no excuses!

  • Thanks Eatcakeandrun. I knew the odds were against me, so as well as entering the London ballott, I also signed up for Paris (also in April). So training will commence as planned :)

  • I didn't get the magazine in post just by email. Didn't get in, was my 1st year trying though! I think good for age might be possible in another year, gives me something to aim for at Manchester marathon or another one, even though its a bit optimistic! So now will start looking for a marathon! HM a week on Sunday :D

  • Email rejection received today๐Ÿ™ - slightly relieved if I'm honest (although I would have been wildly excited if I'd got in!) ๐Ÿค—Well done to those who were successful - I will try again next year!

  • OH didnโ€™t get in either so there is a sigh of relief in this household ๐Ÿ˜‚........really not sure if Iโ€™d try again, we love our 10kโ€™s and have the HMโ€™s as the challenge.......

If I was going to do one it would have to be London.......

  • Good luck for your trail HM on Sunday xx

  • Thanks hon, this one is going to be done in stages, one water station at a time........๐Ÿ˜‚.......lord knows how long itโ€™ll take me........Iโ€™m just hoping to get within the 3 hour cut off time.....๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ๐ŸŒ

  • You'll be fine Sweetie, just fine. All that baseline fitness will come to the rescue. Looking forward to the race report x

  • Rejection email here as well. I'm in the slightly relieved group too, not sure I would have been up to it.

  • I applied when basking in the glow of a longish run that had gone slightly well. Once my application was in I was relieved by comments from friends that I wouldn't get a place - it takes YEARS I was told. And I didn't actually get a place in the ballot - but then won a bloody place because I had said they could keep my sodding fee if I didn't get in.

    Here begins the hard work!

  • Do you mean you got a place in the London Marathon?

    If so, congratulations!!!! :) :)

  • Thank you!

  • So you did end up getting a place? Congratulations!!!

  • Thank you!

  • Oo - go for it! Well done!๐Ÿ™‚

  • Wowsers! Good luck to you! I donโ€™t think I could hack the training, so secretly I am more than relieved at not getting a place..... so hats off to you......i am in awe of anyone who manages a marathon.

  • I received my commiserations email yesterday, but luckily have my charity place to fall back on.

  • Bad luck Tomas and congratulations roseabi x

  • Thanks Mum! :)
