We had been considering doing parkrun while on holiday, but when aliboo70 told me it was going to be in a park we know, I was determined to go! So yesterday, I left my 6-year-old with my mother, and the rest of us made our way to Appley Park. This was me, my husband, eldest son (13), and daughter (11). She was so proud not to need to wear an under-11 slash.
I was really impressed by the organization, and appreciated the orientation for us newbies, then being there for the general info. It was a special day for the race director, as it was his 250nd time.
We were told that the course was undulating, but it was nothing compared to last week. Definitely room for mprovement on my part, though. My son started too fast, so he was walking by km 2, and I had to motivate him, which only partly worked. My daughter did well, but found it tough going. I realized I had a pretty good pace, but decided it was best for her morale that I stay with her. Hubby was happy with his best pace in a long time.
We were really lucky with the weather, as it was sunny when we started, and didn't start raining properly til we fiished. There was some drizzle towards the end, which my daughter welcomed.
We saw Ali and her brother again at the end. I was so glad to meet you, Ali! And I was impressed by how quickly the results emails arrived. I immediately wanted to try to get out there next Saturday and improve my time, but we'll be onto the next stage of our holiday then, so it won't be possible. Maybe parkrun the day before Royal Parks?
