SVN Cookiethon - 6 hour lap running challenge

I entered the Cookiethon for my last long run before London in 3 weeks time. It seemed like the ideal format to run as long as possible with no real pressure over the medal.

The event is a 6 hour 3.28 mile lap race, and you can complete as many or as little over the allocated time. Everyone who completes 1 lap gets a medal, 4 laps are a half marathon, 6 is 20 miles, 8 a full marathon, and there is a mini loop addendum for anyone wanting to round up to 50k.

The location is a nature reserve and the route starts at the small cafe on the top of the hill, down to the shore/sea wall, an out and back along the seawall and then climb back to the cafe, to get your card stamped with your lap, or ring the bell that signifies you have finished.

An aid station at the cafe is well stocked with water and squash, while inside and following the theme of the run were some delicious cookies. This worked well and the volunteers were all friendly and very helpful.

The route itself is very scenic with the dramatic backdrop of the white cliffs of Dover, and the sea. A small beach is adjacent to the route, and with better weather may be an excellent option for after the run! Speaking of the weather we started with fog, continued with rain and only after the first 3-4 hours did it settle - it could be improved, but at least we didn't have large waves coming onto the seawall as per the warnings! (there is an alternative inland route if there's a chance of that).

Due to the nature of the site, a lesser known nature reserve there were no spectators to speak of, only some (not many) dog walkers and people out walking (and one brave couple who defied the elements to set up fishing - I hope at least you caught some!). That is the only part I would not score the event highly - but it didn't make much difference, due to the next point:

The participants. This has been by far the most friendly bunch of runners ever encountered - everyone encouraged each other and smiled. This really made the day and is worth experiencing in an SVN event.

Finally: *The bling* - simply amazing, heavy and brilliantly designed. As I did my longest distance ever on the day I got a PB along with my 'Heavy Half' badge with it :)

I managed to run 20 miles and achieved my training objective - I would very gladly recommend any SVN event to people wanting to run any distance really, as you can start at 5k and go all the way to Ultra. An amazing experience through and through.
