The official photos are now available, so here is the least bad one! The very short hair was a deal for the sponsors. Apologies Sarah! not quite a baldy but not far off.

I know Mr D will want to examine the data so here is the Strava download. Clearly shows my struggles in the last 4 miles! strava.com/activities/59406...

If I can do it, anyone can! The real advantage I have, is that there is no work to get in the way.

Well done on Braving the Shave and running for a great charity, OG.

....... and yes, super consistent pace up to 18/19 miles and then...... well you know a lot better than we do.

Excellent performance nonetheless, and you look no worse for wear than the youngsters in that photo.

Respect.

Your slower splits are about the level I run generally. Very chastening! But also inspiring. Very well done from someone just starting on her running journey.

The saying goes that a 12 minute mile is just as far as a 6 minute mile JSS! It's a personal challenge for all of us that are not elite athletes. Speed doesn't matter, it's the getting there.

Well done OG!!! What a star. I can't imagine running a marathon so hats off to you for nailing it. You must be very relieved that it's over and you can have a rest. How are you feeling now? It takes some time to recover so take care

Thanks MissW, happy I've done it, mostly because I was worried something would crop up to stop me! You are far more disciplined than me, so convinced you would manage it no bother! Feeling quite good thanks, legs are a little stiff but planning a gentle parkrun on Saturday ( Humber Bridge 2nd birthday).

Thanks Roseabi, I had some reservations beforehand, but really enjoyed Edinburgh. The only drawback is it ends a long way from the city, so getting back can take a while. However, the locals made us feel very welcome and the route is varied and picturesque.

Well done your strava splits look the same as mine, dying in final few miles. Great well done! But did you need to carry so much water?

old_git profile image
old_gitMarathon

Thanks Benwell. On reflection, no! My son ran it a few years back and someone stole the water from one of the stations, so I wanted to be cautious. I only carried 2 small bottles, both containing electrolyte sports drink (cramp avoidance) which I finished.

That is a spectacular time! My legs don't know how to run that fast, even in a 10K. Much respect and a soupcon of envy coming your way!
