Will a diagnosis help?

I work in a University Medical School and having heard a speaker talk about Dementia with Lewy bodies I think this might be the cause of my Fathers cognitive impairment. My Dad is 89 and a lot of the symptoms sound very familiar. My dad lives at home with a support from the local council. Would it make any difference for my Dad to be formally diagnosed?
