Second injection worse than the first.

I had my second injection today and it felt very rushed.

No one talked to me other than to ask my name, dob & allergy. Nothing was explained. They didn't put enough numbing drops in so I felt the clamp go in. I told them it hurt so more drops were put in and then the injection happened. I saw the needle coming towards me, last time they did it to the side. Thankfully it wasn't painful but it panicked me, so I'm glad I managed to stay still. I felt like the dr was very rough with my eye putting in drops and when I asked about the lubricating drops for adterwards she said they no longer recommend drops and to leave it to heal naturally!!

Upon getting home the dryness, gritting and pain when blinking got too much that I ended up calling the eye department and was advised I could use drops but only once today. This is completely different to what I was told only 4 weeks ago, when I was treated so well by the nurses, given the lubricating drops and told to use them as often as needed.

I'm now very uncomfortable. Gritty, sore eye with no relief from drops as I'm worried to use them now, even though when my husband bought them the pharmacist said I can use as needed.

Awful, traumatic experience. I'm still shaking now a few hours later.

I had such high anxiety going in today and I fear my next Injection will now be impossible for me to cope with.

I'm so low already, thus hasn't helped one bit.

so sorry to hear about your experience. I ask for a good wash out after,I also get Carbonarra gel put in after injection and they send me home with the tube to use. I have experienced the same symptoms as you it seems to kick in after the numbness wears off. I have never been told to let it heal naturally. Yes know what you mean about the blinking,I console myself with the fact that it will all subside after 24 hours, I have only got sight in my right eye,as my left eye did not respond to the injections the alternative to not having the injections doesn’t bear thinking about. I have had a total of 90 injections. Take care.

Am so sorry you feel traumatised, it is horrible & happened to me. I contacted the Macular Society & they advised to contact the clinic before my next injection to ask for lots of anaesthetic & time for them to work. The clinic advised me to take paracetamol just before the injection. I followed all the advice & the next 2 have been better. I have now had 9 injections & they have all been a different experience with various injectors & teams. Stay strong & keep calm, best wishes

Good morning, I’m so sorry you have had such a bad experience. I’m sure putting drops in beside the antibiotic drops will help soothe the eye. Hopefully the next time you have an injection you will be treated better. The numbing drops don’t work for me, ever, so feel every jab. After having a panic attack when in chair for jab, they now give me a Valium tablet when I arrive so that I’m reasonably calm for jab. We have to keep having the jabs otherwise we will lose sight unfortunately. Best wishes to you. Rosx
