Hello Manney,
Unfortunately this is very characteristic of the macular condition. Individuals often first notice that it takes longer for their eyes to adjust between lighting conditions, and to see in the dark. Unfortunately the only way this can be addressed is to control the environment where possible, i.e. to ensure that you are in well lit surroundings where feasible.
Please contact us if you would like to receive our information on lighting, or anything else linked to the condition.
The Macular Society Advice and Information Service is open 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday on 0300 3030 111.

I am discovering same even though my condition is well controlled. Even if I am inside looking at a bright sky outside it’s like I’ve been staring at a lightbulb and takes a while to adjust. When in bed and wake in the half gloom I can’t make out definition with right eye ...just like a dark void....but can with left. All a bit weird and disturbing! I find I have to have dark glasses and a peaked cap most of the time as glare even in quite dull weather is definitely uncomfortable. I’d like to understand this more as my actual eyesight is pretty good!
