A tiny cyst-like lump near tear duct by birth

My 6 years old has a small cyst-like bump in his left eye’s tear duct by birth. It seems it’s right on the upper lacrimal point or tear duct. Although he never complains about vision impairment, itching, or pain, neither water dripping from the eye nor his tear gets blocked when he cries, his eye is normal.

I usually get concerned whenever I look at that bump. A pediatrician advised us that this is not the right time to consult an ophthalmologist at the moment because the kid doesn’t have any symptoms and he is too young to get any eye treatment, instead, he advised us to practice a slight massage on the lump daily with a fingertip, so it goes away on its own.

I wanted to ask that despite not having any symptoms, should my son even be undergone any surgery or topical treatment to remove the lump, or could it get worse with time? Or is it too early to treat the bubble as he is only 6 years old? Kindly help.

I also attached the picture so anyone can have a better idea how does it look like.

Hi Amirfarooq. I would take him to the GP and ask the GP's advice then if necessary, the GP can refer him to an ophthalmologist. Good luck.

Good Morning Amirfarooq,

We are not medical experts on this page and cannot advise what would be best for your son. It would be best to speak to his GP who may further refer to a specialist if needed.

All the best,

Becky

Hello Becky, thanks for your reply. Yes, that's a good idea to visit a GP first. I will keep updating the post about his condition.

Good afternoon amirfarooq, if he was my son I would visit the GP (if possible now) and ask for a referral to a consultant. Better to do something before it becomes a problem in my view. Best wishes.

Thanks, yes, I was thinking the same. The early cure is better than sorry. Thank you
