Vabysmo or Eylea

Hi All,

I need an urgent advice from the experts here. My father's dry amd has recently progressed to wet and we have been advised to get an Anti VEGF injection. He has advanced glaucoma as well and this is his only working eye (left). The other eye is already affected by glaucoma (90-95%). We are confused if his Anti VEGF injection should be Eylea or Vabysmo? we are not in a position to take any risk yet any vision improvement is a big plus for us. Any advise would be really appreciated. Thank you.

Warm Regards,

Vik

from my reading they are both as good as each other. Have you been given the choice?

Yes Koalajane. Doc has given a choice. Eylea is a proven one but Vabysmo is the latest one however data is still limited per doc. Thanks

Hi VikPa. Has your father's ophthalmologist not advised which one it should be? I was having Eylea injections for five years but it wasn't controlling the fluid that well behind my macula so I was advised to change to Vabysmo, which has made so much difference so far and I hope that continues. My next injection will be nine weeks from the previous one. I hope whichever one your father chooses works very well for him. Good luck.

Thanks for sharing your experience springcross. My father's opthalmologist has given a choice of the two. will consult more with him today. Glad to hear vabysmo is working well at your end. Good luck with your treatment. Thanks.

it’s nice you have been given the choice. I have Eyelea injections which work for me, but we are all different. Which ever you choose I hope it works well.x

hi there I have had both. My humble opinion is I would try Eylea myself. Faricimab is a lot thicker than Eylea and after my 4 loading injections I had to go back to Eylea. Eylea ha a proven track record of success. If he has any ischemia in his eye then def Eylea. I am not medically trained btw. If he has 3 loading doses of Eylea then see where he is you could try Faricimab after that I sssume,

Thanks tallyho. The doc administered him Vabysmo today, perhaps at the same time when you had sent this message. Let's see how it does. Will keep you posted here and thanks again for sharing your experiences.

There is a 3rd choice that so far has not been mentioned in any of the comments. That 3rd choice is Eylea HD. If you start with Eylea regular and sometime in the future it fails to control the fluid leakage, then one can try Eylea HD.

I am currently getting Eylea in both eyes, but, after about 5 years, Eylea regular no longer controlled the fluid leakage in my right eye, so my last shot in my right eye was my 1st shot of Eylea HD. My next shot in my right eye will be my 2nd shot of Eylea HD & will be after 8 weeks. Meanwhile, Eylea regular is controlling m y left eye, which has been getting a shot of Eylea regular for the past 8 months on 2 month intervals.

Hello Retired 130. Thanks for sharing your experience. My father is currently in india and eylea HD is still not available there. He has been administered Vabysmo and doc will keep a watch on how he is responding to it. Good luck for your treatment. thanks and have a good day !

My husband has wet AMD in both eyes. The retina specialist started with Avastin which worked poorly. This was followed by Eyelea which helped. But one day (during the early months of the Pandemic) the doctor was short on Eyelea and switched to Lucentis. This proved to work best for my husband and he’s received that ever since. Everyone is different.

Hello AMDspouse. Thanks for sharing your experience. That was a lucky change for him. Good luck for your husband treatment. My father has been administered Vabysmo and doc will keep a watch on how he is responding to it. Have a good day !

I have now had 12 injections of Eylea since October 2021 for wet AMD in my L eye . In this time my sight has deteriorated such that I can barely read the top 2 lines of the chart (about 15 letters) and the letters are so bizare and distorted it is very hard to make out where the line is as I have to look away from what I'm trying to read. In addition I have a large greyed-out area in the centre.

I am unsure whether I am on the best treatment but when I ask I'm told that Eyelea is working for me. It is true that the bleed disappears after injecting and last year I only needed 2. However the outcome so far is very much worse than I anticipated and I can't help wondering if I would have done better on an alternative drug.

I have dry AMD in the other eye and have recently voluntarily given up driving because I didn't feel I was safe except in perfect light conditions.

hello indigospace. Sorry to hear this. I am new here but per my doc advice, Vabysmo is more advanced and some people had an improvement to their vision. It may be worth a try for yourself. I'll also post my father's results here with it in some time to draw any parallels for yourself. Thanks. have a good day !

Thanks VikPa. I'll ask next time about Vabysmo

I was on Eyelea but they could only extend the gap between injections to 6 weeks so they recommended that I move to Vabysmo. So far I have only had the loading doses but the justification was that they may be able to increase the time between injections. Apparently some people only need 3 injections per year. Too early to tell but my eye has been dry between loading doses.

Noted SueMulk, hope Vabysmo works well for you. Keep us posted here. I'll do the same. Thank you.

The Eyelea HD came out after Vabysmo. My RS told me so far one has not proven to be better than the other and it’s really too soon to say. I get vabysmo in one eye which does well on it. The other eye he switched me to the new Eyelea HD as at ten weeks that eye started to bleed again on Vabysmo.

Ok noted Leslijayne. It appears to be a case by case basis then. Hope this way works better for you - One eye on Eyelea HD and the other on Vabysmo. Please keep us updated on how things go from here. I'll provide an update as well. thanks
