ITCHING EYELIDS

My eyelids itch constantly and although I try to avoid rubbing them it is impossible at times. I use Bhephosol cleanser on the eyes and Theoloz eye drops, both on the recommendation of my consultant. I've asked the pharmacist for advice but he says he knows of nothing that would help.

Hi Angieirish. I don't know much about it I'm afraid but have a read of this from the NHS site: nhs.uk/conditions/blepharitis/. Also, someone else may come along on here who knows about it and maybe has or had suffered with it.

Can I ask how you get on with Theoloz. I used to use the Duo drops but I found the bottle so hard to press that I had to give up using them as I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and it really used to hurt my hands to press it. x

I have arthritis in my hands and I find the Theoloz quite easy to use. I buy mine from the opticians as they allowed me to try the bottle before I bought it. Maybe you can do the same. Thank you for the link, I shall try washing my eyes more thoroughly and see where that gets me.

Yes, I may give that a go, thanks. x

My doctor suggested an eye mask. You can either heat it in the microwave or freeze it (depending on which helps the most). I bought it at the chemist. It certainly helped. I also use dry eye drops.

Check you aren’t using any products with sodium laurel sulphate in.

Thanks for that tip, I'll try it. My eye drops have no preservative as the consultant found that preservative which is in most eye-drops, affected mine badly.

Hi ANGIEIRISH, I have used Black Tea Bag soaks and find it helps the irritation on the lids. I also use Zaditor Antihistamine eye drops twice a day.

Hope this helps you!

Thank you. I should have thought of tea-bags myself, my mother used to use them years ago to soothe tired eyes. No reason why they won't work for itchy eyes as well.

I have suffered with Blepharitis for many years. It is a real nuisance and it does appear that you have to learn to live with it. Heated pads do help some people but I don't find them very helpful. I find blephasol best of all which I use every morning. You need to be very through cleaning round the edge of the eyelids. Sometimes my eyelids stick together which is quite scary so it is important to clean them everyday. Good luck.

I'll stick with the blephasol then!

Just a mention. I was found to be allergic to Chloramphenacol drops used following my treatment for AMD. This left me with itchy, red & swollen eyelids. My treatment was changed to a different type of drops & the allergic reaction stopped. The NHS eye clinic I attend no longer use Chloramphenacol as other patients had also suffered a similar allergic reaction.

Thanks, I'll mention this to my consultant when next I see him and maybe he'll recommend another brand for me.

Eyelid mites are a common problem causing irritation and itching. Google it.
