I attended the RSM event about development of drops to replace injections but delayed posting as promised as had cataract surgery on Monday. So far so good with surgery- it is brilliant at the moment so hoping this continues. I had to try and fit it in between Eyelea injections for BVRO.
So there were two speakers- one from UCL and one from Birmingham and they have both been involved in differing developments. UCL seem to be concentrating on the way to transmit the drops to the back of the eye and Birmingham are doing this but are actually targeting something different to the Veg problem which leads to our oedema. Both have had good success with their products when used in rabbits and after long delays they will both be starting clinical trials very soon ( first stage at this point,)
The drops, when they do materialise, are going t0 be much less expensive so we are now waiting for the trials!!
So all very promising I thought.

Fantastic thank you for posting. It just shows the importance of supporting charities such as The Macular Society doesn’t it? Good luck with your continued recovery
I’ve read some summaries of the research, it’s very promising, but it will be a long time coming, it takes a long time to get a really novel treatment licensed for regular use
