Hi I’ve just joined. I’m 52 and I’ve had a rough year with having brain surgery, just found out on Friday that I have this bullseye maculopathy so I don’t really know much about it. Just wondering can people please tell me what treatment they do. I’m in Australia. Thanks

Dear Catharinemc,

It really does sound as if you've had a rough year.

I have copied two links to some information on Bull's Eye maculopathy:

macularsociety.org/sites/de...

macularsociety.org/macular-...

It is important that you discuss your diagnosis with your ophthalmologist.

Suggested general questions may include:

1. Why am I developing it now?

2. What is the prognosis?

3. Is there treatment available for it?

4. If there is treatment available, why haven’t I had it?

5. Is there anything that I can do to help protect my eyes?

6. What do I do if I notice any sudden changes in my eyes?

7. If I am not having any treatment, are you going to continue to monitor my eyes at the hospital? If not, why not?

In addition, I am copying a link to our booklet: Emotional impact:

Please contact us if we may be of any help.

Kind regards,

Hi, just sending you a hug X what a rough year.

The mac soc have given you info, their helpline is excellent ( email too).

When you know more about your condition and what to expect this forum is here for emotional support if you need it. We have lots of different conditions between us but experience many of the same issues and treatment options. It's been a huge source of comfort for me after the early days of panic and despair - nearly 6 years on things aren't as bad as I feared and I feel I have many friends here (sometimes our families and others just cant get it).

Good luck going forward and happy xmas ( I'm in UK, just watched an aussie on TV describe xmas in the sun lol).

PS Oh, since posting I've realised how awful the fires in your country have been. I meant no disrespect x
