For those for whom the matter is of any interest, I discovered that the anaesthetic used by Manchester Royal Eye Hospital is proxymetacaine (which they generally seem to just refer to as "proxy"). They do not "stock" tetracaine. I know some people, like me, are keen to know how effective the anaesthetic used is or can be made to be, and the safety of its use regarding the cornea.
