I am wondering if anyone has experienced a stroke caused by a blood clot following an eye injection. I have had approx 12 injections over the past two and a half years.
I recovered speech and muscle usage within 24hrs and count myself very fortunate that there seems to be no long term damage.
I have a eyesight review at the hosiptal in a few weeks and no doubt the stroke will be discussed.

This is the first time I have heard of a stroke following an eye injection.

Hi bobpp. Sorry to hear of your unpleasant experience after Eylea injection but very glad to hear that you are recovering really well. It is best, as you say, to discuss it at your next appointment as they will be able to advise you whether it could be related to the injection (hope not) or not. Take care.
Were you on anticoagulant therapy that was held for your injection?
I am very sorry to learn of your stroke but glad you appear to be recovering.
There is record of stroke attributed to Avastin but it is an extremely rare occurrence.

I guess it was coincidence. I was not taking any other medications and have a healthy weight with very good diet and normal levels of cholesterol.
I will see what the Consultant thinks on the review next month.

I have a branch vein retinal occlusion and the same risk factors cause these as do stroke so it may well be that an underlying cause is present for both- rather than the injection.

FYI stroke is an acknowledged side effect of Avastin. It is considered a "rare" event which means it is seen in 1 out of 1000 test subjects (or less) but if 1,000,000 patients get injections then, statistically, 100 of them will get a stroke. I got a GI bleed from Avastin (among other side effects) for which there is an FDA BLACK BOX WARNING and I was told it was coincidence........
Yes I have had a stroke after about 12 of the eyeless injections
My husband received Eylea injections for seven months and during that time became tired and depressed. He felt as though he had a virus and when he became breathless an ambulance was called, He suffered a pulmonary embolism and died. I am convinced that he should never have had the injections as he had a dvt in his leg which should have been mentioned in his initial visit to the Eye Hospital. I have researched many websites relating to Eylea and am convinced that these injections are causing strokes, heart attacks and embolisms. See article. WHO Newsletter no,6. 2018 pages 12 - 15.
