Chloramphenicol reaction
Dear MacularAnn,
I am sorry to read of the pain you experienced.
Has the eye clinic confirmed that it was the antibiotic that was the cause and if so, have they considered how this can be addressed so that it can be avoided on future occasions?
Please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss this further.

Was that in replacement of iodine I am not sure what it is
How have your clinic deduced its the antibiotic rather than the antiseptic?
Since our clinic stopped prescribing chloramphenicol for after injection my eye has been much more comfortable, in fact you hardly know you have had an injection at all.
Hi thanks for your replies, I think rather than a reaction it could have been that after the anaesthetic wore off the ext day the eye may have had a scratch on the cornea and it caused the shocking pain.
My consultant responded to say stop using the antibiotics.
I see that Moorfield hospital do not give out antibiotic drops following injection. But do give soothing drops.
It’s all a learning curve,
Thank you for your invaluable support and advice.
Wishing you all the best. Xxx Ann
