Looking for others experiencing a seemingly permanent floater from silicone oil after Avastin injection

Hoping to get a picture of why this occurred. Was it the compounding lab? Is there still a chance of it going away? ( it has been 6 months). Switched to Lucentis since, so far, so good.

It is beyond annoying: the shape and size of an olive slice. White/almost fluorescent center.

Had this after 2nd Eyelea injection. It has now split into several very tiny pieces that are even more annoying than the original. Have been told that it is permanent! Did not get this with the Lucentis injections in my right eye but now having treatment for wet amd in my left eye using Eyelea!

Very annoying when you think it is little flying insects & go to swat them then realise its the floaters after all!

I was told that my large floater might break up, and then the small pieces settle lower down, where they are less annoying. It isn't happening, so far. Maybe you will be luckier.

Dear No2020,

Have you directed these questions to your ophthalmologist?

It would be really worth you doing so, in order to get the correct medical explanation in relation to your eyes in particular.

Kind regards,

Yes, I have. My ophthalmologist checked during a regular exam and said she could see the oil droplet. My other doctor who does only injections and surgery says the same. He has been very good explaining the problem of using the silicone oils versus not using it in the manufacturing process.

My first thought was could a vitrectomey not resolve the problem?

It is worth asking I think.

Silicone oil is often used for this procedure and then replaced with saline.

Yes, it was mentioned, but ruled out as it is a very complicated procedure, requiring a lot of aftercare . I am 78 and diabetic.

in reply toNo2020

It should not be complicated. It was offered to me twice in my mid-late 70's but was withdrawn because my particular condition, radiation induced oedema, had progressed too far for it to be of benefit. I know of numerous people who have had the procedure using the saline method who have had no complications and good results. The method which involves silicone is different and more complicated requiring "posturing" ie remaining face down for 20 or so hrs per day for several days.

Thanks, wasn't aware of the saline treatment. Will ask my doc about this.

I may consider this. But would like to hear from others to get a picture of where this occurred. From my research it seems to be the fault of the compounding lab. Improper shipping? I have confidence in the clinic and the doctor who is treating me. I am very pleased with their protocol and expertise. The injections are painless.
