Possible misdiagnosed Macular Degeneration at 17 years old?

4 years ago, when I was 17, my vision got drastically worse and an opthalmologist told me I’ve got macular degeneration (my mom had it). I was also told that your condition cannot improve, you can only control it after it gets diagnosed.

I got some meds prescribed, which, as an irresponsible teeen, I did not take. Right now I am preparing for a medical examination for a job of Air Traffic Controller and my sight has drastically improved, probably from 6/30 (20/100) to 6/9 (20/30). Also, I am aware that this is very unlikely to happen to a 17 year old. Is it possible that he just misdiagnosed, as a lot of things don’t add up?

I take it you have something in writing from this opthalmologist? You need to disclose this and say you think he is wrong and get second opinion. Do you have symptoms? Are straight lined objects appearing bendy and do you have an Amsler chart? What were the meds btw?

You say your mother had it? Was she cured and if so he? Sounds like you need to explore this more.

After reading so many posts from across the pond I'm beginning to see why the US is seen as very litigious! May not be perfect but bless our NHS.
