Does anyone know if juicing leafy green vegetables would be an effective way of getting the right nutrients to combat dry AMD? (I’m not keen on eating them, but might do better if I juiced them with an apple perhaps.)

Juicing leafy green veg
Yes, especially curly kale and spinach. Be prepared for your pee to turn luminous yellow though! I tried juicing and smoothies with fruit to make it palatable but put on weight with all the fruit sugars lol. Soups were better. In the end though I went with macushield for convenience as it has the lutein, xeanthen & mesoxeanthen. It isn't Areds 2 formula though ( check macular society info on that).
Thanks eyesright - I’m thinking I should up my lutein intake so will try juicing kale etc for myself.
Thanks Dottie2011. It’s my other half who has just had Dry AMD diagnosed and he is prone to kidney stones and I think oxalate levels are relevant there.
Hi EyesM
You may find some recipes to make eating kale more palatable at this link:

You can read more about nutrients that contain lutein, which is beneficial for eye health, here on The Macular Society website:

Just to make you aware, we are currently offering free 6 month membership. This is a good way to keep up with current developments and you can join by following this link:

Hi EyesM
My Dr insists I take Arids 2. Studies show that more lutein has no beneficial result, more is not better.
Eating kale and dark greens is always a healthier lifestyle, but will not cure MAc D, perhaps just slow down the progression.
Thanks EyesM. We’ll have a chat with the optician but also increase the green veg intake.
