Can somebody tell me about drusen?

I was told that their presence was necessary for the diagnosis of dry MD. I understand that they are some sort of debris.

What causes them? Where in the eye are they located? Do they accumulate in certain places? Are they forever, or do they disintegrate with time?

Can I see them? If so, what do they look like to the person who has them? What do they look like to the doctor?

And why are they called drusen?

Thank you from me too. I've lost the central vision in my left eye now - approx. 4 years after 1st having drusen and wet amd in my right eye diagnosed. I now have wet amd in both eyes. Drusen have never been properly explained to me, so this was very useful.

Thank you. It had a lot of information and was very clear. I like the way it was written - so often informational articles sound like they are written doctor-to-doctor. This is for everybody.

Springcross gave you a great link. I thought I would share my experience. I had many raised "Drusen bumps" in my eye. My retinal doctor highly suggested that I take a supplement with 10mg Meso-Zeaxanthin, 2mg Zeaxanthin, and 10mg Lutein. He strongly advised the addition of the 10mg of Meso-Zeaxanthin. I found a product with all that plus Marigold extract. He was amazed that the Drusen flattened way down after 3 months. My eyesight in the dry eye seemed to improve as well. I couldn't find 10mg of Meso-Zeaxanthin in the US so I got it from the UK.

🙂

I have never heard of the first two but I have heard lutein recommended. Where did you find it, if it is okay to ask?

It was from TIME HEALTH. I got free shipping and I think new customers get the same. It is very low cost. It is a 4 month supply, all natural, No GMO, Gluten Free 100% Vegan, microencapsulated, etc. I sound like an ad, but I am not a seller! Just trying to help out others with Mac. Degeneration. The pic is the product. Let me know if you can get it! Good Luck! 😊

thought I answered this but I guess I lost the post.

Here is the link for anybody who is interested timehealth.co.uk/product/lu... I liked the site, especially that they list where their products are tested and that the articles they post are readable and informative.

My question is: Your doctor, RandyM, recommended 10 mg lutein but the website recommends 30 mg. What are your thoughts?

Hi oldoakowl, I showed my retinal specialist the ingredients and he said those amounts are fine. I guess being a specialist, I will trust him, but I don't think more Lutein would do any harm. Since it seems to be working on flattening the drusen, I will keep using it. I hope it works with other folks too! Best regards, and have a good day!😊😊😊
