Unsure what these long words mean.

Hi. Can anyone here please explain the difference in my diagnosis of 'choroidal neovascular membrane associated with myopia' and wet or dry eye macular. Thanks.

Hi, I think (please correct me if I am wrong anybody) that it means it is myopic macular degeneration rather than age related. There are many similarities between the two conditions, myopic degeneration can be wet or dry too. The terminology refers to the wet type, which is similar to wet AMD.

Thanks for the response. From what I understand wet is more serious than dry. I've had two eylea injections and have a third in 2 weeks. I know they are a treatment and not a cure but do most people show an improvement in vision?

Hi. The injections dry the blood up and suppress new bleeds. So the drying up sometimes makes vision clearer as well as reducing further bleeds. My first injection (same condition, Avastin injection) several years ago gave me my original (limited) vision back for a whole year before any more bleeds. Eyelea has only just been licensed for myopic CNV so we might see even better results with that. Good luck, fingers crossed.

Hi 2468G,

Choroidal neovascular membranes (CNVM) are new, damaging blood vessels that grow beneath the retina. These blood vessels grow in an area called the choroid. They break through the barrier between the choroid and the retina.

It is a type of wet macular generation that you have.

If you are myopic, your eye ball is more 'rugby ball' shaped rather than 'football' shaped and consequently you are more prone to macular conditions as your retina and macular are slightly stretched.

That is encouraging to hear. You must feel so relieved as it is such a frightening thing to deal with. Can I ask what your eye prescription is and are you in my age group (53).
