Sorry to ask so many questions all at once but --- I think that I am starting to understand that what I have got now. Damage to my right eye can only be stabilized against further damage and there is no guarantee of no further damage even with the injections?? I can come to terms with that , even to losing all sight from that eye perhaps some time in the future. But I have two eyes - so I am more concerned now about my "good " eye. I have not paid much attention to my eyes over the many years - and I am not sure that there is or has been anything that could or could have been done to prevent what I now have - as my old friend used to say "there is no future in old age!" . So - what about the good eye??? Is that destined to eventually suffer damage as well? What is done to prevent that if possible??
What about the other eye???: Sorry to ask so... - Macular Society
What about the other eye???
Bazza, speak to the Macular Society. They have lots of info on diet, supplements , tinted specs sunglasses etc.
You may be able to get the supplements on prescription from your gp. I don't have wetmd which I'm assuming you do but as my own condition is still active my Dr gives me Macushield ( saves eating a ton of curly kale lol).
Be careful with supplements, they may say for eyes but only certain ones are good for us with problems. Mac Soc can advise you.
Thank you - I am hoping to get more advice from my opthamologist. At this stage all I have got is a picture of the many small bleeding spots in the eye, another kind of picture of the "erupted" macula - and a statement that I need injections - "please make an appointment with the receptionist and by the way, the cost is $**** " . The injectionist is also an ophthalmologist , so I don't really know which one will be the one that tells me WTF is going on!!!!
Ah you're not in UK. Things differ slightly I think. But the Macular Society have an email helpline if you don't want to call and their supplement advice is current best practice. Their website has lots of generic info too.
You should still be able to ring your eye people now and ask for the name of your condition ( which they have id'd or wouldn't be giving you inj). Then you know what to look for or ask the Mac Soc.. I find taking control of aspects of your own care, even if it's just info gathering, will help you deal with the overall situation.
Dear Bazza 1234
Your previous posters have given good guidance, as having an overall healthy lifestyle is advisable to promote and protect eye health as you can read in our General guide
macularsociety.org/sites/de...
In addition it may be beneficial to check out the following on our website here
•Smoking
•Protecting your eyes
•Lighting
•Nutrition
If you have been diagnosed with wet AMD, there is a statistic that someone who has wet in one eye, has a 50% chance of developing it in the other eye within 5yrs.
The important thing is to get personalised information from your eye specialist, and monitor your other eye sight with an Amsler grid as in the general Guide booklet.
I hope you find this helpful, and that you can access our website for ongoing news and developments as they arise.
Regards,
The Macular Society
The injections can compromise the health of the "fellow" eye .... the "good" eye. Read the manufacturer's product information guide (PIG) carefully for whichever injection you are receiving.
