Hi, getting injections in my right eye for macular odema, leaks stopped but no,change in my sight, had 6 injections going for review in 2 weeks time. However after a check of my eyes by my optician she discovered I had a split in my macular in my left eye, my good eye. Has anyone any info on this condition, any treatment available etc. Any advice would be most welcome. Thank you all for reading this.

What injection did you get where it was still leaking? Mine started leaking again after second shot of Avastin, I had Eylea today for my third shot.

I had 6 injections of lucent , it did the job, it's the split macular in my other good eye that concerns me now.

I don't know if it's the same as your eye but my son's mother-in law has had two holes in the macular- different eyes- they appeared for no obvious reason.

She had these repaired by surgery at Moorfieldo and her sight is now excellent except for not really liking bright sunshine.

Rosy, thanks for that response, that sounds encouraging when something can be done to correct the problem, thank you again.

I have an appointment at the eye clinic mid March, well, it is for my right eye, but now with this new development in my left eye, don't know what they will say or do, I will keep in touch, thank you again.

Hi Harrymole,

Your optician could have detected a 'macular hole'?

Are you being referred to the hospital for more investigations?

We have a factsheet explaining about macular holes and treatment for them. If you would like one, either email the Macular Society helpline on help@macularsociety.org or call the helpline and we can post you a copy; 0300 30 30 111 (9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday).

Hello Harrymole. Sorry to hear about your problem with your good eye. As I understand it, a macular split is NOT a physical tear or hole in the macula but rather a split in the macular field of vision. I know the macula is very tiny, but if you imagine a circle and divide it into 4 cross sectons, any of these sections may be visually impaired. There may be several causes for this to happen, not necessarily AMD, but I am not qualified to make any suggestions. You need to ask the expert at your next review to explain to you, but the cause should definitely be investigated.

As for your treated eye, well it is often a roller-coaster ride, sometimes it gets better and sometimes it gets worse again. You have to give it time. We have all been there and I feel for you. I wish you the very best. Do let us know how you get on at your review, especially with regards to split macula.

Hi again

Can I ask if the vision in your "good" eye has suddenly got really bad? If that is the case, see your GP for a referral or better still, go to A&E. Two weeks is a long time to wait when you may need attention now.

Good luck.

Hi Ayayay80, glad to say my vision in my good eye is still normal, the macular problem so far hasn't changed that, just hope it stays good. Yes if my sight deteriorated I would certainly go to Aand E immediately, thank you for your concern.

Hi Ayaya, I have had my visit to the eye clinic, got good news there. Consultant told me my optician was just being over cautious, no concerns with my good eye. No injection needed for my eye with the macualr odema, fluid all cleared up, so happy me. I have now a 6 week wait until my next appointment, normally it was a monthly gap. Thanks for your interest.

Great news for you Harrymole.

I'm waiting on review for my macular oedema after a switch from Lucentis to eyelea - good luck to all of us!
