And so it begins......

the next chapter of my life. Start training in my new job today. There is hope for the 50 +es after all. My advisor at the jobcentre was pleased as he knew how it hard it was to get a job.

I would highly recommend EADS, Employment and Disability Service, as they helped to gain my confidence after having been dumped by my previous employer. I just hope that the lupus stays calm for a while. I was upfront with my new employer about my condition. Luckily she also suffers from Raynauds.

Congratulations!! I have just been made redundant after 14 years at the County Council and I'm 50 in two weeks!! Great..... They have been really flexible about my working hours as I have to have an afternoon sleep. Not sure my next employer will be so understanding. Sign on tomorrow! Good luck with the new job. How many hours a week? D

Hi Davina,

I worked for Royal Mail for 30 years. I am now training to be a home carer. You go to peoples homes rather than be employed in a care home. I opted for 30 hours as I haven't worked since Oct2011.

You should ask to see a disability employment advisor. Best wishes

Well 1st day done. I am the oldest, only one never done any caring, except of parents. I knew some of the things that were covered, manual handling. The young lady who sat next to me was quite helpful. I wish I could get to grips with hubbys pc!! You only have to touch something and the screen zooms in! One good thing hot chocolate on tap or different types of coffee whatever takes your fancy. Wonder what today will bring.

I was rather put out by the trainer saying she was surprised by the company for taking me on because of the lupus. I thought " watch it girlie" lol. You would be surprised what I can do. She had a awful cold, thankfully I have had a flu jab. I think we have a man today, hmmm young man......poor devil.

Congratulations and best of luck for the job. Perhaps the trainer would have been best off saying nothing if she had nothing good to say eh? Hope all goes well x

2nd day . Knees started aching sitting in those awful chairs. Not made for a size 24 6 footer. Thankfully the next session is only 3 hours. Have been told I am "shadowing" from the 25th, so have told hubby to get me up at half five. Gawd!!! Mind you I used to get up at half four for the post. Oh wel I am on a 3 month trial and if it doesn't suit....
