From what I've read Cath Lupus isnt necessarily passed on. There is a genetic link but the likelihood of someone getting Lupus because a relative has it is very small....

Good luck with the diet plan :) I'm over 13 stones now :(( I used to be 11 at the most but the medical profession arent concerned about it so I decided I wouldnt be either. It only bothers me when I'm getting dressed and cant wear fitted clothing x

Hi Catb18,

Good luck with your sponsored slim. We hope you manage to achieve your target and we really appreciate your support.

I've found a passage in 'The Lupus Book' by Daniel J. Wallace M.D. about genetic links of lupus;

"If you have lupus, members of your immediate family, or first-degree relatives (brothers, sisters, parents and children), are at a slightly increased risk for developing it too. Several surveys have estimated this risk at 10 percent for your daughter and 2 percent for your son. If you have lupus and have an identical twin, the chance that this sibling is similarly afflicted ranges from 26 percent to 70 percent. If your twin is fraternal, however, this figure is only 5 to 10 percent. Interestingly, the prevalence of SLE among all family members of lupus patients is 10 to 15 percent, whereas the chance of any of this group having autoimmune diseases (including lupus) is 20 to 30 percent"

So you can see that there is a genetic link to lupius, however, that isn't the full story. Environment clearly plays a roll too.

I hope this helps. If you ever need any more information, just ask.
