can anyone reccomend a good shampoo/conditioner h... - LUPUS UK
can anyone reccomend a good shampoo/conditioner has my scalp is realy dry and my doctor has given me treatments but seem to make it dryer,
Warm olive oil massaged in & left on overnight is really good 4 dry or flaky scalps, Coconut oil is apparently good too, other than that, I don't know as I have no problem with mine my lovely.
Buy a bottle of almond oil from a chemist or health food shop. Slather all over and massage well into your scalp. Leave for as long as possible then shampoo your hair twice with a moisturising shampoo and condition. The best products I've found recently are Dove Nourishing Oil Care shampoo and also the conditioner in the same range. Hope that helps!
do you know what is the underlying condition that makes his scalp dry?
Hi Clare,
As everything we put on our skin ends up in our bloodstream, I am very careful in what I put on my skin. I try to avoid any products with mineral oil or harsh alcohols and use organic products whenever possible.
I massage coconut oil (doesn't make clothes or sheets 'filthy') into hair and scalp and leave for several hours (or overnight - head wrapped in thin towel) before washing. I'm always on the look-out for gentle hair and body products and currently use Weleda's Calendula & Chamomile Shampoo. I also have the Rosemary & Ginger (normal to dry hair). I like the Calendula one best at the moment. There is a different conditioner for each of the shampoos.
There are various size jars with coconut oil advertised in shops and on the internet (face, body and cooking) but I always GET the LARGEST JAR (food section, organic!), as the content is exactly the same but to a (much!) better price. Then I put some of it into a little jar for 'the dressing table' and use it daily - to my body's delight!! Coconut oil is great for the whole body. I massage some onto skin and ..slurrp it's gone in! Actually, I am totally covered in coconut oil ..as we speak! The brand I use is Biona Coconut Oil (is organic).
Still, I don't think it's enough to treat the body on the outside only, as I believe health problems come from an imbalance inside. Drinking enough water (not carbonated!) is also an important part of staying well. Sadly, many lupies suffer from skin conditions and sometimes all we can do is to ease the problem best we can. I manage (just about!) by avoiding chemicals whenever possible and using organic products as much as possible - not just for hair & body but also in food & drink. I hope you get to grips with your scalp and hair dryness soon. xxx
I had a very dry scalp at the same time as lupus rashes started. I was advised to use coal tar products by a dermatologist, which helped a lot. They have a distinctive smell, but I don't find it lingers once you've washed it out. I still use Alphosyl shampoo, which you can get from any chemist. It's not cheap, but you don't need much & it last for ages.
Hope this helps, clare. X
