Adrenal Fatigue

Has anyone ever been diagnosed with this alongside other ailments..eg Lupus, Fibromyalgia etc. Was doing some internet surfing about the latter the other day and came across it and all the symptoms matched how I am feeling now, on top of the usual nasties that I have.

someone had a post about this a couple of months ago. I read up on it afterwards and I certainly felt I matched the symptoms too. Glad you posted actually as I forgot to mention this to rheumie! xxx

I have read about this too, I think there are many specialists who do not believe that there is such a thing occurring in a otherwise healthy person who has just happened to work too hard. There is something similar to this caused by long term steroid use, when the adrenal glands do not manufacture the natural steroid any longer, is this your case?

Yes steroid use can bring this on so can extreme stress caused by illness!! It is autoimmune related, often often after illness like penumonia, death in family etc. Having read about it, it seemed to have similar symptoms to Lupus so possibly often goes un-diagnosed. However one symptom made me wonder as adrenal fatigue patients find that they are only 'alert' after about 6.00 pm! This is how I have been for several months now and have been really perplexed by it......

Sounds like it is related to when the steroids are released into the body. If you get to ask your doctor about it, it will be interesting to know what he/she says.

Yes, I have had adrenal fatigue diagnosed. There are supplements you can take. Look up the BioCare website, for instance. Whether it is chicken or egg, however, is a moot point!

Most orthodox doctors won't know what the hell you're talking about if you mention this. Or what to do if you show them results for whacky cortisol/DHEA levels etc. If you're really lucky they'll refer you to an endocrinologist who may be better placed to help.

It would be interesting to hear how you get on with your investigations into this.

my consultant told me I would have to continue on a low dose of steroids eg 5mg

because your adrenal gland becomes inactive after years of steroids.

I have had Lupus for 10 years and been on steroids for 7 years. So this is what you mightv be experiencing. Hope this helps.
