Hi Luppychic, I'm in the same boat! I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and an underactive thyroid six years ago and diagnosed after a biopsy with Lupus last week ??It's pants isn't it?! Have you been told there is any link? That they are both autoimmune?

There is a genetic link between SLE and diabetes... SLE can be caused by mutations at different unrelated sites of your genome (which means different people can have different genetic background of SLE), however as far as I rememeber chromosome 7 mutation that is associated with increased risk of SLE development is also associated with type 2 diabetes.

Hi

I am the same SLE and Diabetes. I was told by my GP that the high doses of steroids that I had when I was very bad with Lupus are the cause of me getting Diabetes. Then I was told that I have COPD as well, oh well.

Keep well all :) x

I developed steroid induced Diabetes and have now been on insulin for over 3 years. I was extremely worried and upset to begin with but feel so much better now my sugars are under control.I have had sle for 19yrs and had to up steroids after developing interstitial pulmonary fibrosis.Sometimes it seems that its one thing on top of another, but then you just get on with things and do your best and things work out ok :) x

My husband says the same thing it's one after the other. But god help me I will take one day at a time. I'm on sick leave at the moment from my job as the stress of this new condition has caused me to have a flare.

Thank you for your kind words.

Ann
