Anti-depressants: Has anyone had a good reaction to... - LUPUS UK
Anti-depressants
I had post-natal depression many years ago and the only anti-depressant that worked for me was amitriptyline because it helped me sleep. I now take it to help me sleep (10 mg only), because the lupus makes me so tired. Personally I would avoid the SSRIs, because I felt awful on them. xx
I was given Amitriptyline at one stage,I felt suicidal and zombeish.Zopiclone is my night helper but, even they don't help much.I am scared to take more than 2[3.75 per tablet]because they make me feel very agressive. As tired as I am at times,I still have to take the Zopiclone occasionally to help me sleep. What can I do ?The depression is so bad at the moment.I keep praying for it to pass.XX
I have been put on fluoxetine which definitely brightens my mood.
Doesn't particularly help with the sleep problems but helps me function through the day!!!!
Glad to hear fluoxetine helps you, again this was a bad reactor for me.I am at my wits end.Hope reumatology can help today.
I seems to be sensitive to many drugs my GP acknowledges this I wonder if this is common with this type of condition
Hi Binkey,
I don't have any experience with anti-depressants but I wonder if you have considered alternatives? I am a registered nutritionist (BSc, MSc) specialising in nutrition for the brain. There is a lot of good and solid evidence now for the use of long chain omega 3 fatty acids. In fact a professor of psychiatry that lectured me uses EPA (a long chain omega 3 fat) with many of his patients. You would need to check with your GP but 1-2g of EPA daily may really help. I have written about this on my website blog here: vitalitywithin.com/category... and also wrote a lot of different articles on depression which can be read here: blog.bodykind.com/?s=%22ani...
I will soon be changing my website to deal only with Lupus.
Wishing you well

I had depression during the menopause & started on Fluoxetine. They worked on me incredibly fast, which was worrying at first but i soon became accustomed to them. 6 years later i have other health concerns & so I stopped taking them, which was easily done too. Some times our chemicals go awry & need a little help. It's old fashioned not to get help with mental health after all we get help with Dental health etc lol Honestly you'll be ok just hang in there & have a little faith.
