Anti depressant question.

Can anyone suggest a suitable anti depressant with few side effects,I have lupus and migraine.

I have had terrible side effects to 4 different ones and had to stop them.

I have suffered from depression for 4 months now and getting disheartened of ever finding medication I can tolerate.

Thanks.

Sweeney.

i am wondering if the headaches i am getting are from lupus-i also suffer sinus.how was your lupus diagnosed

My migraines are I think lupus related but stress also brings them on.

I have attended Neurologist but reacted to any medication he put me on.

You have to get a definite diagnosis for your headaches have you mentioned them to your Rheumotoligist, sinus problems can also cause headaches.

I have had lupus for 20years now,it took a long while to be diagnosed,I suffer mostly from terrible fatigue, migraines, depression and aches and pains.

Hello Sweeney

Have you considered St.Johns Wort? It is regarded as a herbal here, but is widely prescribed elsewhere in Europe as a mainstream med.

Hi Thaddeus,

yes I know of St.Johns Wort would have to check it is safe to take with my other meds as there is some interactions with certain drugs.

I have just been started on Escitalopram, anti depressant, will see how that goes first.

Thank you for replying.

I have for the past 12 yrs had headaches caused by Muscle contraction.

I was put on Amitriptyline and did can take up to 6+25mg per day it helps relax the muscles but it is a anti depressant.

I am now off the Amirtrp and doing neck and shoulder exercise and trying to relax more that part has been hard, but you know what my headaches are 90% better.

I am saying this as my new doctor is treating the cause not my symptoms.

So i am a lucky girl..My be if you do some neck and shoulder exercise

it might help you Migraines then you will feel better and less depressed.

Yes you do need to be careful with st johns wort and other herbs as they can interact with medication and can have side effects. I have talked with my doctor about trying vita to help with pain but again you have to be careful not to overdose as it can cause problems. All in all a minefield. I am beginning to wonder if people with lupus /connective tissue disease are more sensitive to medications I know I certainly am.

Migraines with lupus can often be caused by 'sticky blood' or Antiphospholipid Syndrome. Have you been tested for this? The treatment is to take anticoagulants.
