hi,I took out a mortgage in feb, intended to get income protection ASAP. In the meantime, Dr suggested lupus due to skin flair up and got a blood test(antibody level 29?). Can i get income protection as only had one blood test for skin related lupus. I have now put together other sypmtoms e.g. joint pain but not told dr.
income protection and possible lupus?: hi,I took... - LUPUS UK
income protection and possible lupus?
I cant remember my first # onf anti bodies...but Yes you can, before you get an official diagnosois. iin your doctors report. You are still ok to take out Income protection, or maybe long term disability insurance through work, But do it soon, I dont know if it varies in different states . you may not want to tell him about your other symtoms, just yet!! (?) Good Luck!!!
You need to disclose whatever your GP knows, because they will get a report from him anyway and anything they find out later will invalidate your insurance. Do it as quickly as you can! I relied on income protection insurance for about 10 years and it was a lifesaver.
If you're in the UK I'd say it's unlikely you'll be unable to take out IP (income protection) whilst you have symptoms which are awaiting diagnosis. All insurers will ask you in-depth questions and you have a duty to disclose all information, otherwise they may not pay out in the event of a claim.
It may be worth you contacting Lupus UK as I'm sure they can put you in touch with a financial adviser who can try to look at options for you, for example some employers offer IP as an Employee Benefit (and we just don't realise).
Good luck, both with getting cover, and in reaching a diagnosis.
thank you all for your replies and good advice. Lynne
