has anyone experienced rib pain on their back? This doesn’t feel like my typical “lupus pain” .. this is more like a stabbing/throbbing pain. It can also radiate to the front ribs but seems to be prominent in my back area. Also super tired the last few days… as per usual 😴😴
Any advice or has anyone dealt with something similar? Just wondering it it’s Lupus related or something else…….

I'm afraid that rib pain is my constant companion. It can start between my shoulder blades and radiate across to the anterior ribs. I get costochondritis but this has extended to include other areas. It can be exacerbated by a flare, an action/activity and sadly for me vaccines.
The only way to treat it has been rest, heat and positional change and ensuring my disease is as controlled as possible.
Having said all that, I am now being investigated for any underlying heart issues as there was concern that the 'rib' pain could be masking something - like pericarditis, this was because when it was at it's worse - sitting forward could relieve the worst of the 'back /rib' pain. Perhaps, therefore it would be wise to chat to a Dr as you say this is not your normal pain. It certainly wouldn't be a waste of time. After my echocardiogram - the Dr said that it was always good to get a baseline of the heart for people with Connective Tissue Disease. Hope that helps a little and here to chat if you need more information. x
I wonder if this is what I feel I get like a squeezing throbbing pain in my spine area ,both sides and feel in abdomen area and often cant decide if front radiating to back or back radiating to front. I find it worse when lying down and every morning when I wake. I also feel it in my arms and legs at times. sorry I have no answers 🤗
I’ve had similar pain for years, but mine is from scoliosis, so unrelated to lupus. Having said that, they say lupus can contribute to inflammation anywhere in the body, so…
Recently I had front-rib pain that radiated to my back. Turned out to be a hiatus hernia. If yours presents with other symptoms (like nausea) or if it doesn’t get better despite taking anti-inflammatories, I’d definitely get it checked out. Hope you start to feel better soon!
If it’s different from your ‘normal’ pain I think it would be sensible to check with your doctor. It’s easy just to put everything down to lupus.
Odd question, but you wrote about your ‘typical lupus pain’….what is that? Can you explain? Sometimes everything hurts, and I don’t know how to explain it. It would be helpful to understand what others in this situation experience.
Is it worse when you are lying down? Mine won’t let me sleep. One day I started cooking new dishes, which made me have to bend and twist more - and I got this horrible, sharp pain in my ribs in the back. I found chiropractic to be helpful or steroid shots, if it’s bad bad. My ribs are in pain most of the time. It can disappear if I stretch, but the act of stretching is not fun at first. I would recommend using moist clay heat on your ribs, get massages with cupping (the best to loosen myofascial tissue) and chiropractic. I can’t afford to do it, but I can’t afford not to - my life since fibro!
