Amputation

Hi there I am just wondering if anyone knows how I can convince my specialist to agree to me having my index finger amputated.

I suffered from sceladoma autoimmune disease.

I have extra collengen growth I'm my fingers.

This has caused my fingers to become deformed and very uncomfortable.

My index finger is the worst, no pain killers come close to stopping the constant throbing pain that is with me continually.

I have asked my doctor to amputate but they do not agree.

I know that I will never get the use of my finger back and they have told me that it will only get worse .

I have got to the point where I am trying to find a private hospital that will do this for me.

Unfortunately I do not have the funds to do this.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I am so sorry you are going through this

Just a couple of thoughts .. is it worth contacting SRUK helpline ..? Maybe they have information of a specialist that performs this type of surgery on a patient like yourself ?

I don’t use face book but I wonder if there is a scleroderma page which maybe you could share your story with and someone may be in same position as you . It would be great if you could discuss this with another sufferer who has had the procedure

I truly hope you get some relief xx

Tiggywoos' advice is good; I really hope you find someone to help, and quickly. Might also be worth seeing a vascular specialist. There has been some research into electrive amputation for pain relief so it might be worth reading up on that. I found one study here: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl... Do let us know how you get on.

I wonder if there is any clinical type trials ? Might be worth getting contact with UCL or maybe royal free too ?
