Carbomer eye gel

Good morning.

I was at the ophthalmologist yesterday getting umpteen scans and things due to taking hydroxychloroquine.

I have very dry eyes once the UV starts to increase (usually February so bang on time). The ophthalmologist gave me carbomer eye gel to use before I go to bed and told me to continue using Hylo-Forte during the day.

What I forgot to ask was whether this was a temporary measure or should I be using carbomer gel long term. I know hylo-forte is OK for long time use but I wondered if any of you know if carbomer is also OK for long term use?

Thanks for your help.

You need to check out yours against the numbers on the recall notice here as this brand was subject to a recall recently.

Thanks. I've just checked and it's not on the list. Phew.

Recently an optician suggested that I used TheoDuo Gel. Checked ingredients and it has Carbomer (Carbopol 974, 0.25%) in it.

My tear ducts and inside lower lids are getting irritated with even some of the preservative free drops and ointments.

Found an article on Dry Eye Disease in SLE. Never heard of the condition before but for sure relate to it.

hi whippet lady, yes it is ok to use every night if you need to, you should be able to get it added to your prescription. I tend to use it only when i need to, i find its more in the winter months when the central heating is on.

Hello Whippet lady. I’ve now been prescribed Clinitas eye drops to use daily. I think they’re slightly thicker than clinitas. Up to now I have no problem with them (which is a minor miracle with a new medication!).
