Hi I'm 57 and have SLE,can I get the shingles injection? There are ads everywhere but my surgery say that although I'm immune compromised I don't qualify as I'm too young. I live in Scotland. Thank you

Recently asked on another forum - yes in England, my reply here - but Scotland may have different rules - hopefully they will fall in line - but you may need to do a bit of research yourself...

Hi. Im on methotrexate injections and have repeat shingles, 2 to 3 times yearly. I asked my GP but he said I couldn't have it as too young (59), I'm in Scotland too 🌹

If you’ve already had shingles sometime in your life you may actually have natural immunity to the shingles virus!

Don’t panic or feel you’re missing out but keep shielding from others who may have it actively! Has a new variant been identified?

Hi Kate. I live in Scotland and was turned down for the shingles jag until the year AFTER I was 70. Scotland has a ‘cut off’ date of 30 September each year so if your birthday is during the last three months of the year you don’t qualify until the winter of the following year. I finally got the inactivated vaccine this year when I was 71 and three months! I’ve had shingles twice but that made no difference.

Hi Kate …I just posted an answer above as I couldn’t find your post again!

Looks like you are now eligible..but this info was from NHS England….hope Scotland is the same.

AC

See below from NHS England. There is now a non live vaccine suitable for everybody.

Almost a million more people (900,000) will become eligible for a shingles vaccination from September, the NHS announced today.

Anyone who is severely immunosuppressed and over 50 will be able to get two doses of the Shingrix vaccine – currently the vaccine is only available to those over 70.

From 1 SEPTEMBER 2023, those turning 65 and 70 will also be able to get the vaccine after their birthday, in addition to those already aged 70-80. Patients will be contacted by their GP practice when they become eligible.

Eligibility will then be expanded to include those 60 and up by September 2033.
