Invites for Covid vaccinations got me curious about the American system. Curious because among friends, media, Professionals in health and Teaching and Business etc… I’ve heard nothing. At least in my geography of southern US the word Covid is dead. People do not speak of it, life is back to normal and here where I live(want to stress that) the Covid vaccine is looked upon with skepticism and distrust. Test kits are offered by one of our pharmacies and I’m certain the vaccine is offered as well although I never see anyone waiting for it anymore. In a word, Covid is no longer seen as a threat. Just a new virus that was greatly exaggerated and cost us 2 years of our lives.
This is a volatile issue for some and I understand. I had Covid twice and the second time was milder. I admit to being very skeptical at this point of the efficacy of the jabs for Covid except for elderly populations who are well enough to receive the vaccine. I plan to never have it again unless I’m very ill and more research has improved it to be effective and safe. I’m not trying to “throw shade” on anyone’s decision to have booster; rather remarking how different attitudes towards the vaccine are as per geography. Best, MrsMarigold

Hi MrsMarigold, Hope all is well in your part of the south. Interesting observation of Covid. There are so many analogies, it is endless. My own theory is Covid as a medical Zebra. Like many of us," Zebra is the American medical slang for arriving at a surprising, often exotic, medical diagnosis when a more commonplace explanation is more likely.[1] It is shorthand for the aphorism coined in the late 1940s by Theodore Woodward, professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, who instructed his medical interns: "When you hear hoofbeats behind you, don't expect to see a zebra."[2] (Since zebras are much rarer than horses in the United States, the sound of hoofbeats would almost certainly be from a horse.) By 1960, the aphorism was widely known in medical circles.[3][4]
Medical novices are predisposed to make rare diagnoses because of (a) the availability heuristic ("events more easily remembered are judged more probable") and (b) the phenomenon first enunciated in Rhetorica ad Herennium (circa 85 BC), "the striking and the novel stay longer in the mind." Thus, the aphorism is an important caution against these biases when teaching medical students to weigh medical evidence. [5]

Diagnosticians have noted, however, that "zebra"-type diagnoses must nonetheless be held in mind until the evidence conclusively rules them out:" How a virus could sweep a world of some 687 million people off their feet, and end some 6.86 million is the question of time. Weather we do believe or not, we must all live together in this. As Mother nature, and all her complex origins, always will rule the roost. The best way I found to deal with her, is to tread with loving care, and compassion in her great universe. Holding true,that we are all apart of her, as we want to be or not. Each of us are unique, and each of us hold the responsibilities to choose, I chose the roads less traveled here in my life, and it has served me well during this epice time of covid. and we must respect those who choose a different path. This is just my opinion, not avid yours or anyone else's, we each need to mark our twine, and follow it like a line, geographically speaking. Hi Storm. Really lovely response. I always wondered where the zebra connection came from. Thank you for that. I agree with everything you said. May I ask where you are on the map of this world? Somewhere very cold I think! Yes in my part of the world very few lend an ear to the past chaos. Which as we know we must learn from history or we will repeat it. I wonder what the scientific realm learned the most? From my world I learned answers are unpredictable. So we tread carefully; especially with our tongues ( most don’t heed this unfortunately) and we take care of each other. Best to you!xx
If anyone has the patience for the CDC bulletin/it covers so much information and has taken me 3 days to read; Vaccination effectiveness is at the very end!!!! Also a section on how to be a star citizen in your community with subtle and persuasive language on how to deal with misinformation. It is a worthy read for any nationality as it has facts and figures etc. Good information to help anyone seeking answers to Covid questions for now and in future. However for myself, too heavy handed with persuasion about the safety and efficacy of the vaccine. Best to all, MrsMarigold

It seems that the US differ from the U.K. guidelines with a lot of confusion about who are eligible and who are not for spring booster jabs.
One hears all kinds of different criteria being mooted regarding age, AI, medication etc regarding eligibility?
From what I read here:
* Some never want to be vaxed ever again because of adverse side effects?🥹
* Others here getting very anxious because they haven’t received NHS reminder letters to get a booster!🧐
*Some have been jabbed 5/6/7 times and still want more?🧐👆One wonders why? Based on what evidence?
*Even the guidelines have changed with very little data now being collected on covid?
*WHO in the last few days have actually downgraded this covid pandemic worldwide (see Twitter).
My personal concern is that FOMO (fear of missing out) still seems to operate in many, in that people still want a booster?! Suggestive of a competition to be the most “boosted” with covid vax?!
Yet there are others here who’ve never been jabbed, never caught covid and never want to be jabbed!😜🧐
They simply don’t want the jab for a number of different reasons and are entitled to their own decisions.
Who’s right? Who’s wrong?🧐👆
Personally I feel there should be more research on those with super antibodies (yes there are people out there cited by experts) against covid and Long Covid.
I understand there have been criticisms on certain manufacturers of covid vaccines eg Astra Zeneca who have not been entirely honest about adverse side effects so there you go…?

BTW I don’t go along with the zebra analogy.

I’m glad you appreciated all the stated “criterion, factual and analyzed information from our esteemed institutions and fallen but unmentioned scientists (Dr. F)”. The origin of the birth of said virus still needs its “birth certificate “ but of course Americans are too busy debating the different sexes of bees and birds so don’t look for resolution any time soon. Sarcasm aside….,
Covid naturally scares people and rightly so because people in our situation of life get sick easily; we are moving targets. I did what I was told to do and rarely went out to collect mail and still got it twice. In taking the anti viral I had what can only be described rightly as auditory hallucinations:I literally heard music I’d never before heard : Great Gospel, Big Band sounds of the 1930’s and 1940’s, jazz with Saxophonist and Joni Mitchell (whose music I know) early 1970s. I had 2 thoughts: one I was a lunatic and I could be in a state of tense fear or I could sit back and enjoy the concerts. I enjoyed them. When the antiviral course was over, the music died. Then I had 5 more days mild Covid.
I’m sure most people will not read the new guidelines and be able make up their own mind’s and even reading them makes the decisions difficult Best to all in these times
