Advice on chronic pneumonia

Hello FolksI have joined on behalf of my friend whom has a definite diagnoses of lupus. Although she has experienced lupus related health problems over a number of years, more recently she has been suffering from chronic pneumonia. She was previously relatively well and held down a full time demanding job.

She had pneumonia and was hospitalised for a month before being discharged Ten weeks ago.

I think she mentioned that her inflammatory markers had been going down, albeit slowly.

She has been back to a fairly helpful GP as she has started to become very breathless again, presently queued to see an NHS consultant for follow up but is not particularly happy with the consultant whom she was under whilst unwell, although grateful generally for the support she received.

So, my question is do any of you have experience with Chronic pneumonia?

She would be happy to see a private respiratory consultant, and if allowed is it possible to give me some pointers in the general direction of one who has proved useful? I appreciate that it may not be ethical to name a particular individual, but a hospital or region might allow for my research..........

She has been diagnosed for a number of years and is in her mid fifties.

Thanks for any help offered.

You’re a wonderful friend 👏👏👏👏

Just wondering if this angle might be useful to her:

Have immunologic profile blood tests have been run, especially her immunoglobulin G levels (IgG), but also IgA & IgM.? Because chronic respiratory infections can be related to IgG deficiency. And of course, immunosuppression meds tend to make us more susceptible to chronic infections. My team calls mine chronic bacteria driven persistence pattern Infections

Eg We are unusual, but some of us are managing both Autoimmune conditions and Immunodeficiency conditions, eg I am coming up to my 70th, on heavy duty immunosuppression for infant onset lupus & various typical autoimmune secondaries + managing infant onset Antibody Deficiency Disease panhypogammaglobulinaemia (chronic deficiency of IgG, A & M) for which Immunology has me on long term IgG Replacement Therapy (IVIG/SCIG) + long term prophylactic daily antibiotics, which aim to prevent breakthrough infections, especially pneumonia becoming chronic, bronchiectasis etc

Glad you posted…hope you’ll let us know how your friend gets on 💞💞💞💞 Coco
