Welp,

Spent the past week enjoying vacation with my husband and celebrating our wedding anniversary a little late while our girls were both at overnight camps. This is why I didn’t respond to those of you who kindly responded to my post (thank youu!) we haven’t had much alone time or a vacation and it was so nice to get away for a while.

We got to Thursday afternoon when we got the call; our oldest caught Covid (or it caught her) and she was running a 104 temp. Earlier in the week we got an email stating a couple kids got sent home after testing positive and now our daughter is one of 4 to test positive on her bus and everyone on her bus got sent home. We picked her up by Thursday evening and have kept her quarantined in her room and bathroom and have been cleaning everything like crazy. Picking up the little one tomorrow in hopes that she doesn’t have Covid (her camp was all outside) as we didn’t receive a call. We’ve been instructed that she is to get tested and I’ve decided to wear a mask when she comes home just to be sure. Got my Covid shot a little late (Thursday afternoon after we got the call) and unfortunately all three of us, minus my husband are to be quarantined inside the house until the 20th. Liz can come out of her area on the 10th. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we move forward and in hopes that there wont be any further Covid sickness in our home.

I am so sorry about this. I hope everything goes well. That is smart to wear a mask to protect yourself. Covid infection does not do anything good for underlying illnesses.

Take good care,

😍 k

Thank you Kay, I agree. Hopeful that the little one doesn’t have it. I gave up wearing a mask around her as she asked me why I was wearing a mask and I didn’t have the heart to tell her that it was incase she had Covid. Sue doesn’t have a fever or show normal signs but I know some children are symptomatic.

If you only just got your second shot you are still not fully vaccinated especially against the delta variant. Do you have air purifiers, if not maybe buy one. If you have ac use merv filters in it or keep it off.

Masking works. I was expose to infected peers and students directly many times but I never took my mask off at work not even to eat or drink and I remained covid negative each quarentine.

I hope your daughter improves quickly and you all remain covid free. We really are not at all immune until 14 days after that second jab. The first shot only provides 30 percent protection against variants.

I wish you all well.

Hi Roarah, Unfortunately I just got my first. I've been a bit a bit hesitant due to my ganglioside antibodies but if all does well then I will get the second shot on the 22nd.

Yes, we do have a hepa filter/ air purifier in my ur daughter’s room and have masked the hall off. She thinks its a bit excessive but she didn’t understand that walking to and from the bedroom without a mask increases chances of exposure. She has changed her ways though.

I’m so sorry you had to work in an environment with co-workers that exposed you and had to quarantine more than once. That truly sucks hut am so glad you were safe and never tested positive. Can I ask if they had symptoms? Or do you work in healthcare? That is beyond me as it sounds like those people weren’t too careful or you work in healthcare.

She’s doing well, I think lonely though but time is almost up. No fever still thankfully!

I work in a pre k 4-5 year olds and a few hours with 5- 10 year olds per week in extra reading help. Most of teachers who got infected outside of school meeting for breakfast together inside a diner. Two had to receive monoclonal antibodies and one was sick with flu like issues. The one was less ill acutely now has more long covid issues.

Masks work! Hopefully the rest of the family will stay covid free.

But the surge the UK ( and many parts of the rest of the world) is seeing is directly related to not having enough fully vaccinated people. The vaccine only protects those who get their two doses on schedule and will at this point not eradicate covid for any one not fully vaccinated. I am sadden to see that the uk is not vaccinating 12 to 17 year olds:( This group is very responsible for the terribly high numbers the uk is seeing.

My state has fully vaccinated numbers close to 70 percent including every one over 12 and our numbers are pretty much gone and there were less than four hospitalized with covid. Any one reading this please stop delaying vaccination doing so puts you at far greater risk that the shot will.

That is terrible and I’m sorry to hear that teachers help spread it along with their choices. It reminds me of what the health department doctor said over the phone, that alot of times the adults and parents are responsible for spread because of their choices and actions. My hope is that we will be able to see what the long term pros and cons are for younger ages as we move along on this journey. I agree that masks do help, along with hand washing and staying home if not well. I think that’s great that your state has many vaccinated and very few cases. I hope that each person will do their research and decide what is best for them. I wasn’t so sure at first because I have Ganglioside antibodies but took the leap when I learned my daughter had to be picked up and am so glad I did. I haven’t had my feared symptoms and no guillan barre episodes. Ready to get the second shot on the 22nd. I hope that even as covid mutates, the vaccines will still help protect us against and lighten the potential symptoms, should someone still get it.

My state with over 76 percent vaccination is not seeing the delta variant as the dominant strain which has our scientist stating that vaccination does indeed offer great protection at least against the present variants. This is very promising.

Thank you Krazykat! I hope so too, the little one is getting tested today and doesn’t seem to have Covid symptoms so we’re thankful for that.

Yes, alot of people claimed kids weren’t affected but here we are! Hopefully we will be able to put this behind us all soon. I hope and pray your grandkids stay safe as we continue this summer and look to the next school year.

If it's early enough can you get monoclonal antibody therapy for her there in UK?

JennaShi profile image
JennaShi in reply toJujubeee

Hi Jujubeee, Unfortunately we aren’t in the UK. She is in pretty good shape thankfully. No more fever, just cough and some fatigue. I think she will make it through.

Good luck

Jenna, hope things settle soon and everyone else dodges the COVID bullet. Have to agree with Roarah on this one and encourage everyone who has delayed, to get vaccinated. My state hit 70% and dropped the mask 😷 mandate and opened most things back on July 1. Some places still require it and it’s their prerogative. I wear mine when in public places indoors as extra protection, even though I am vaccinated. I have had issues in the past with maintaining immunity so with my newly acquired knowledge, my choice. I’ve lost too many friends to COVID and have a housemate with long haulers. No fun at all. 😘🍀🌸🍀

The argument that keeps coming up with our mom is how people have died and that we don’t know the lasting effects. It does seem, however, that any vaccine has the potential/ has caused issues for someone somewhere and there have been people who have died unfortunately. Covid has also taken many lives and so have other diseases. I hope people will really do their homework so that they can be well informed; I do hope that people will realize how real all this is and try to look out for others too by trying to be careful. I’m sorry to hear you have lost people you know and love; I can only imagine how how hard it must be. I too wear a mask in public even in laces not required, unfortunately as much as I wish people were careful, I know this is not always the case.
